It looks like everybody is starting to get a bit frustrated. NJ is a bad place right now for jobs and we all have to utilize everything that the state is offering to help. Stevemorse is right about the process. It is very straight forward. Think about it before you even ask. If you write on that slip anything other than your 3 job searches and outcomes, then you are not gonna get a check. plain and simple.

The state is like robots, they don't console people or feel pity, if you didnt follow it 100% correctly, you will not get a check issued. They don't care if your sick, in a hospital, you dog died, your little brother/sister was ill etc.. That is NOT acceptable. To get the check for the week, you must have looked for work 3 times and listed who you contacted. Believe me, they will take the first oppportunity that they can get to shut your account down.

I, myself, am not yet up to EB, im still on tier 2 and really looking hard for work. Im trying to avoid even needing "EB". I hope you all are as well because these unemployment extensions will not go on forever.

I have already been hearing people ask "any extensions coming after EB? how about after that?" I mean, damn folks, they just came out with it. I know maybe it is because we are all scared about not finding work but... I think some people are actually getting too used to this and are becoming dependant on new extensions coming out instead of actually looking hard for a job. We have to eventually find jobs because When EB is over, im not sure that there will be any more. I mean, I don't think people can collect for 2 years straight.

I hope my senses are wrong on this but it seems that some people just want to collect for as long as they can which is fine but...remember that if you are not "truly" looking for a job, then you have no idea how hard it is. To save you from a lot of stress, don't wait until you have 1 week of your EB left before you start looking for a job. You'll end up in a big jam and no money. It takes a while to find a position, interview, shine thru agains all of the other people they are interviewing, and ultimately get the job. Sometimes, it can takes weeks alone between the interview process and actually getting the job/starting. You may potentially end up with no money during that timeframe if you wait to the last minute on unemployment.

Realistically, I will prob need EB myself but am trying not to.

Everyone, stop what you are doing. Let's all take a minute to thank our city-data.com unemployment savior stevemorse. Without this person, we would all be in trouble. Personally, I listen to his advice above all, even over the State of New Jersey's advice. Sarcasm. Seriously, come on man. Do you really need to get bent out of shape when someone comes on this forum to ask about their unemployment issues? We fully understand to call the unemployment agencies if we have dire issues needed to be taken care of. This is a place for unemployed working class to see if anyone else has run into the same problems. Your "expertise" in this forum only shows you've not been working for sometime. Be a litle more sympathetic to everyones needs and answer peoples questions with a little more respect please. Telling someone they should thank you sounds a bit insecure.

You're being a wiseguy. "She" is trying to help as the rest of us are.

I'm not on EB yet either, but soon. You do have to use a little common sense here with this. You can not "call out sick" and expect benefits to continue. Some of this (unemployment benefits) is automated, and some handled by automated people. Fill the form the best you can, but put something down.

talk about sarcasm, first off he said take it easy to me and I was just trying to help him so I do think a thank you would have been nice. Whats wrong with that, and yes I am an expert interviewer and unemployment collector. This mean that I have worked and put money into the system. This also means that I can help alot of people who have had trouble. You know I never had to work, I worked because I wanted too, so this allowed me alot of freedom. Freedom to get fired, say shove it or go weightlift all day long. Also I have worked on and off for years which means I know the system however its not welfare, so reguardless I have worked to get it on and off for years. The difference is you have to get off your butt and work long enough to get it. HOWEVER your are correct on one thing, I am not looking too damn hard for a job. In fact I never plan on working again!!!! Maybe part time when I am bored but I have absolutely NO reason to go back to work. I have money, a husband who tells me to do what ever I want in the day, and I am loving life for the first time!!!! Now do I have problems you bet, but money is not one of them!!! I have offered people money, loans and help for food or bills on this forum in private. I meant that to people who I have PM'ed. The offer still stands for certain people , dont judge me, I would help someone out unlike alot of other people. The bottom line is people always judged me for having money alot was invested /alot my father made thru out his career and investments. It amounted to a big sum, now what I am suppost to do , tell my father go give it to the kid down the block?? I mean if you need money/loan/food/ or help please let me know, some people here I would help in a heart beat, but why am I insecure. OF COURSE all ex druggies are insecure , all people are insecure at something in their life or at one time. You sound a bit resentful towards me. If you thought I was not being sympathetic your wrong, I never told anyone here to go get off your butt and find work, or why have you not found a job. I have supported the older people here looking for work too. I just told one person not to write something to help him out, so get off my case. Take a look at some other people comments on why people should not collect unemployment.

I may be alot of things, a bit stuck up, an ex- crack head , , a weight lifting nut, an overboard stupid, ignorant women but unsympathic no. That is not me, mean spiritied, no, not a good person, no, so say what you want I know my faults, I know that at times I am human and can get off on my brother in laws misery. I am trying to change my bad qualities, but unsympathic no, only when its deserved. However the offer stands to people that I know if you need help, food let me know. Marilyn

by the way buddy, I do volunteer work, helping people who want to get off drugs and booze. I have gone on 4 calls this week and got one person in rehab this week which I drove him too! Can you say you do that, and that is an unsympathic person. I go to the debts of pain and drug addiction where even these people's familys, wives, husbands and children dont even want to deal with them anymore. I give people hope to get off drugs and that my dear means I have to be firm but VERY SYMPATHETIC!

Now lets get back to the unemployment issue and move on.

Just a quick question, as this looks like it may happen: I'm going to be working on editing a magazine part-time, however I will receive a check for my services in one lump sum after a few issues. What would happen if, one week, I answer on the form that I made, say, $3500 the previous week. I obviously would not get a check, but would there be any other ramifications of this such as permanent denial? Yes, it's nice to make $3000 and change, but it's no permanent thing here. Should I pass on the opportunity?

I have to say I love reading what everyone has posted it is really helping me. I was laid off in December from the new race track in Millville. My initial unemployment is up June 5, 2009. I had 26 weeks. I am currently attending college full time and waiting for a federal job. I have an interview again Monday...I don't like worry this much about not having a job but the extension is really going to help me so much. Is it still 20 weeks?? And if you still don't have a job 13 more? I am really stressing about next month. I already know my background investigation for the Federal job will take 2 months. Is everyone getting their extension with no problem? Does the message still say $0 balance for everyone?? Thank you! Not sure if everyone watched the news today but Obama is stressing college and there will be letters mailed out from the unemployment offices to take to the college to apply for federal aid.....I am gonna try next week...I'll let you know how it goes!

I will mention this again. We can help each other with general questions about the Unemployment System but particular questions like eligibility and certain circumstances you would have to contact the Unemployment Office. You can read through some of the threads and posts to see how we felt our way through this as each extension was added. I have threads/posts for EUC TIER I & II, EB, $25 FAC and Cobra. Hope this helps.

Good Call Taurus, that is my point too. Not sure why people would think to ask something so specific here but not have the sense to call unemployment and actually ask them first?
