that's right about 40 years ago were when the riots happened and the town began it's tumble to where it is now. The place was becoming that rat hole it is today.

right again, the town's promoters are playing off the suburbanites who come to town for the nightlife, trying to portray it as a happening place, and you're right again ocean and wall's only problem are some kids doing drugs, sounds like anywhere USA.
here's todays crime installment:
Attacker sought in Asbury stabbing
ASBURY PARK: A 21-year-old Neptune man was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center after he was stabbed in Asbury Park Village Saturday, police said.
The assailant escaped on foot and has yet to be apprehended, Sgt. John Broyles said.

and???
are you trying to say it didn't happen? it isn't asbury park?
what it is, isa report of another random act of violence that is plaguing the area, and yes that section of Neptune that borders asbury is not any great shakes either

For the people that live in Asbury and love it, you have made a decision to live there for a reason. Its certainly not cheap anylonger, so maybe your reasons justify why you chose to live there. I think what others are trying to say is that, Asbury has been through this redevelopment phase so many times, it get annoying . You see good people losing their money investing and its very sad. Nothing ever gets done and the crime plummets and yes it is pouring over to Ocean Twsp also. There is something very wrong there and its doesnt benefit anyone.

Like I Said. It Is What It Is. As An Adult You Can Move Anywhere You Want. Jersey City And Hoboken Were Wonderful Cities, Then They Sucked, Now There Back. Have Some Hope.

therein lies the problem, those of us who really know asbury park and know the players and have seen the results of 30+ years of asbury being on the comeback trail take all the hype with a huge grain of salt.
when people come to a forum like this and ask about the place, you can't in good conscience parrot the hype being put out by the town's boosters without telling them the real story of what has, is and will be happening there.

You're so right! Most of us have tried to have "hope" for years and years. We're tired of hoping.

Asbury is not Jersey City or Hoboken. Any redevelopment there will follow a very different pattern. It is located in the middle of a very suburban area not an urban one. Big difference right there. This is like the "why can't Camden be more like Hoboken" thread all over again. These towns are not equal when it comes to the options for revitalization.
