low cost independent house on Rent in Edison, NJ (apartments, houses)

I will be relocating to USA and am looking for residence at Edison, NJ;

Some questions:

a. What willbe cost of a small but independent house in Edison or near-by ?

b. is it advisable to be in an Apartment or a house - from the safety point of view ?

c. How simple / difficult to get the basic amenities - like a second-hand car, house fixtures etc., - meaning time & effort required (apart from Money)

d. Weather conditions in Edison, NJ - is it bearable.

e. Any other value addition in staying in Edison or any alternative that will provide cost saving .

a.apartments are less costly but houses have much more room
b.edison is very safe and big geographically so it makes no difference house or apartment
c.second hand dealerships gaurentee their cars
d.weather drops below freezing during winter but not to much snow
e.u can save by renting/sharing a house
