I think i heard one a LONG time ago in Passaic County on a family trip, not sure if it was a dog or anything but it gave me chills. The howl wasnt really like a wolf howl, but it had that "thats no regular dog" sound.
But i just googled it and it does say that MOST coyotes exist in many parts of jersey especially Sussex county and parts of Passaic and Morris counties.
butr im sure they range all over NJ, I know i heard some sightings in Bergen County.

I also heard that a few Coyotes have been spotted in Chicago... in the downtown area

ran into several coyotes while hiking in stokes and ramapo reservation in mahwah,i personally never had a problem with them ,i think they are harmless to adults ,unless ofcourse you are sickly or aged ,wild animals can smell and sense sickness ,its how they make thier living

They're all over the state. People see them with some regularity down here in the southern counties.

They're not much to worry about. I suppose a hungry coyote would look at a small pet as dinner, a hungry pack might get a bit more daring, but they do tend to stay away from people.

Have never seen coyotes in NJ, but have in Hollywood, CA

Early A.M. in the Hills, the coyotes show up on garbage pick up day!!
I was told that the people encroachment, has forced these creatures from their natural habitat.
There were many of them, tipping over cans.

I left New Jersey in 1970, and I've gotta be honest, I didn't know Jersey had coyotes. Has this only happened the past few decades or were they around all the while?
