Default Gone But Not Forgotten: What do you miss in New Jersey?

People seem to love to go back into their memories and find places and things they enjoy that are no longer here.
What do you miss that is no longer in New Jersey?

I miss the Old Denville Shack that sat at the corner of Franklin Rd. and Route 46. Now the Burger King!
But the Denville Shack was special. We had friends who's family owned it.
It was just a funky place to sit outside with a hamberger and fries.
Old, and cranky, but unique.
I miss that we would head for Bertrands Island and have fun when I was small, and when my kids were small, now it is townhomes.
Trips to Newberry's in Dover at one time was fun. Before the big Malls came into the scene.
Trips to Morristown and Bambergers ( Macy's ) was also a treat.
Thinking of the Santaland at the Green in Morristown. Do they still do that?
There use to be big, big, wooden rocking horses, and Santa was always in his adorable house.

The drive-in on Rt. 35 in Hazlet/Holmdel.
The "Auction" on Rt 36 in Union Beach.
There was a coffee shop/deli on Poole Ave. in Union Beach/Hazlet that used to be a "hang out" while in high school.

Oh how about the Pine Brook auction. We went every weekend when I was a kid.
What about the Drive-ins? The Morris Plains Drive-in and the Parsippany Drive-in.
I use to walk to the Denville Theater all the time. I think that left the downtown long ago.
We'd hang out in high school at the Stewarts in Rockaway.....By Gosh, it is still there and it looks the same...

Stewart's drive-in in Holmdel.

Thankfully Hot Dog Johnny's is still in exsistance.

The Howard Johnson's restaurant at the Rts. 35 and 36 split in Keyport.

I love Hot Dog Johnnys, so old and quaint.

Hey, we had some cousins in Keyport........I remember taking a horseshoe crab home( from that area) and my mother immediately throwing it away........LOL ( I guess that was the name, ugly thing)

Horseshoe crabs are plentiful along the water in Keyport and Union Beach. If you step on one and get it's barbed tail in your foot, the pain is unbelieveable. I don't blame your Mom for throwing it away. The stench, when they die and start rotting, is terrible.

There was a rotting, deserted barge in the water in Union Beach we used to play on. It's gone now and, yes, it was a stupid thing to do but we were kids.

Atlantic City before all the Casinos...........
I now collect old time postcards of Atlantic City. The Marlboro-Blenheim and that area.
I stayed in that old, old, hotel. The floors were quite damp, into the red, red rugs along the hallways. I stood on the balcony looking out on the ocean. The sounds were so wonderful.......
The Steel Pier when it was so much fun with entertainment.
And yes, I was so crazy to go down in the dumbell, down into the ocean from the pier.
What if that ever broke loose? .........Awful thought!
