Default Areas Around Edison, Woodbridge

Hello, I am looking at a possible job transfer from Colorado to a new office in Iselin. My husband and I are not at all familiar with NJ and are wondering what areas within a 30-45 min drive from Iselin would be nice areas to live for a married couple with no children. We'd like to be 'close' to the beach, meaning within 45 minutes, and have a nice, safe area with access to transit, etc. My husband grew up in rural France and I've been a Northeastern girl my whole life except these last 3 years in Colorado (another job transfer). We're curious about areas like Edison, Woodbridge, and any possible good areas to consider south of there? Any suggestions? Thank you!

South Amboy. Easy drive to the shore, on the NJ Coast Line. Reasonably safe.

Metuchen is very close (5 minutes to Iselin) and the nicest town in that general area. Plenty of nice towns south of Iselin in Monmouth county which are closer to the beach. A lot will depend on your budget.

It is very crowded in Ediston/Iselin and it takes at least an hour to get to the shore. Iselin is a big East Indian town. North Edison is the "good" side of Edison. There are tons of nice garden apartments and condos. Since you dont have kids yet you dont have to worry about the schools.

If you can stand the commute - try the Hamilton NJ area - cheaper, more rural and only 45 minutes to the beach.

As someone noted above, it's going to depend greatly on your budget.

Default Fords

Can't beat the area near Perth Amboy along New Brunswick ave. 10 minutes from Iselin down rt 9/35.

Metuchen train station is right down the road.
Metro Park station to DC 10 minutes away.
18 minutes to Newark airport on the turnpike.

1/2 hour from Sandy Hook. 5 minutes from good salt water fishing in Raritan Bay and party boats for fluke, flounder, strippers and blues. Get on 287, rts1,9, 35, parkway, turnpike in less than 5 minutes. Old single family Neighborhood. Walk to bank, post office, restaurants. 5 minutes form South Amboy ferry to Manhattan.
16 minutes form Rutgers, 10 minutes from Middlesex co college. 30 min from Princeton. Can be in God's country in northwest NJ in 1 hour but many closer places to hike, fish, kayak.

35 minutes from Round Valley reservoir and tophy trout fishing.

I think they mean before entering Perth Amboy like Fords or something. Perth Amboy is a 3rd world Puerto Rico wasteland, not to insult P.R., as well as New Brunswick which is pretty much 3rd world Mexico for pointers. Plainfield sucks to unless u like a trip to the zoo, and beware Iselin resembles Kolkata, but rather than that..

OH, ok! Phew, I know a little about Perth Amboy and am glad that is not being recommended as the OP wanted safe.
