Sigh. Going Out of Business sales have been dead to me since the beginning of the new millennium. You used to be able to get good deals, but no more. Too much marketing hype, too many ignorant (or even stupid) people willing to pay crazy prices for thing because they're "20% Off", and too many people learning about the deals more quickly because of the Internet.
I'll tell you one thing that you may be able to get for good prices: CDs and DVDs. When the Wiz closed several years ago, I got some great deals on CD box sets. But you have about as much chance of winning the lottery as of getting a bargain on an HDTV or a PS3. These things will be gone by the time the store hits 20% off (unless they're damaged or very old models).
I was no Circuit City fan, but things will be worse without them. Best Buy will be a virtual electronics store monopoly. Yeah, there's Target and Wal-Mart, but they don't usually sell higher-end electronics. There's still competition from Amazon and other online places to keep prices from going crazy, but overall prices will most likely go up.
Thank God people are beginning to realize that these liquidators are scams artists...... Bring the price back to MSRP, take off 10%, and see who bites; unfortunaty there will be some.
When CompUSA went under, I was in the market for a cheap desktop for my kids. Found one that was 30+% off during the liquidation sale. On a hunch, went to Best Buy and got the same computer cheaper! Beware the "sales"!!
Everyone needs to make sure they pay attention to prices
The pricing is supposed to be the same as when Comp USA went out of business, wasn't worth it. I can get better deals shopping sales.
From what I read at one of my computer boards it was 10% to start, eventually 20% then 30% until slim pickings.
I stopped in CC yesterday, they were offering 20% off all "social gaming" (Guitar Hero, etc.).
Now that's actually a pretty good deal, considering that if something is wrong with the peripherals, you have to contact the manufacturer directly (ie. cannot bring back to the store).
If you are in the market for this, head out to CC ASAP.
