Estates at bordens crossing,bordentown
Hi,did anyone buy a house in "The estates at bordens crossing",borden town, community?we really like the community, especially the half acre lots.but the only thing is,they have been there for almost 2years and sold only 10 houses so far...these guys are on 130 south.I am just wondering what could be the reason?the chesterfield new development is selling so fast even in the bad economy, but why not this?can someone explain me about the town and that area. and the schools in bordentown and compare them with the chesterfield.and also the commute to jersey city from bordentown.and how much would it cost for landscaping for half acre in bordentown.since we are first time homebuyers,we have no clue about that. Thanks .

I am a New Jersey DEP licensed radon specialist and recently installed a radon reduction system in a newer development in Bordentown on Longview Drive. I don't recall the name of the development but its very near the 295 exit and accessed from both 130 and Bordentown-Hedding Road. Is it possible there might be a radon issue there ?

All houses have some radon.......you just have to test and see if your house is below the EPA/DEP guideline of 4.0 pCi/l. The house on Longview was tested by a professional and found to have excessive levels......its a fairly standard test anymore during a typical real estate transaction. Radon is a colorless, odorless, radioactive gas thats emitted from naturally formed uranium deposits deep in the ground as it decays. The EPA/DEP has determined that long term exposure can lead to lung cancer....so much so that its considered the second leading cause of lung cancer behind smoking. The fact that that particular house on Longview has unsafe levels doesn't mean the adjacent houses will be high also, however, its raises the likelyhood substantially. No one can tell exactly why that house was high other than its how the gas sifts up through the cracks and cevases in the soil under the house. It would be unrealistic to think this is the only house in the neighborhood thats high. Once one house is discovered to be high its likely that others will be found to be high too.....but the only way to determine this is to test......you can get yourself a test kit at Home Depot or Lowes or you can have a DEP licensed professional do it. The fact is that New Jersey has one of the worst radon problems of all 50 states.

If your asking me I'm afraid I can't help you with answers to all those questions.......if you have a question about radon then I'm your man...but stimulus plans, interest rates and school districts your on your own.

My boyfriend and I are in the middle of buying there. We also come from Edison, NJ and we like the proximity to the NJ Turnpike and the 1/2 acre lots which we can not get in this area. The only reason we saw that the development was coming along slowly is because the builder would not go down in price like all of Chesterfield has with incentives of 80 - 100K off.
