WELLLL..................
This past summer we were on OBX and went to a local pizza joint one night. OMG, this stuff was INEDIBLE. Truly, truly horrible. I can't even tell you why, I've blocked the memory it was so bad. There were 12 of us in the place (that sat maybe 15) and we all (even the kids) were giving each other "WTF is this crap" eye..LOL.
So, now I know. There is no place in Northern, Central or Southern NJ that evens comes close to that nastiness.

They use sand when mixing the dough. I lived on OBX for awhile and all pizza there is really very very bad.

LMAO - that must be it!
I'm really not a snob about this, if we were talking about Mexican food (or TexMex), I'd be right behind the Texas native living in NJ complaining about how horrible that type of food is here. Some places have the corner on different cuisines, ours just happens to be pizza!

Reroute your pizza trips to Staten Island. The little neglected island surpasses the entire state of New Jersey when it comes to pizza.

excellent point. while pizza in new jersey is far better than almost anywhere else in the country, nyc proper still sets the standard for the ny-nj metro area. staten island in particular has some of the best in the region: joe & pat's, ciro, denino's, nunzio's, lee's, and so on and so forth. even lesser SI places like jimmy max or gennaro's would be above average in nj.
the other boroughs have good pizza too, especially brooklyn, but i think pound-for-pound, staten island might be the pizza king of nyc.
of course this doesn't even take into account new haven, connecticut, which is only 75 minutes away from northeastern nj and is a top challenger for best pizza city in the country.

There use to be a pizza place in Perth Amboy, that had some photos on the wall of Bon Jovi and others. I can't remember right off hand, but they aren't there anymore. But WOW...that pizza was good! I wonder where they moved to if they did. Need to find out what the name was.
(And Sometimes I do buy a frozen Pie, Tree Tavern.)

It might be Sciortino's and they are now in S. Amboy. I haven't been there but a friend was and said it was real good. I read about this place when it was closing in Perth Amboy, I believe they had the brick ovens which makes good pizza.

Okay I actually found a photo online of what the store looked like, and YES...that was it.
I only had pizza there a few times, and totally loved it!
