I agree. If you have to look at 50 homes, you don't know what you want, and you need to go back home and do some more research into what you want, and than look into, does what you wan even exist where you want it or at a price your willing to pay. If the answers to those questions are negative, time to go back to square one.

I looked at the poll #s and over 31 percent who posted looked at over 51 homes. You deserve a raise. If I were a realtor and someone wanted to look at over 51 homes I tell them to annoy some one else. I hope they meant that they researched over 51 homes on the net or magazines and did not pyhsically drag a realtor around for a year on end and then say maybe I should rent.

I want to say that we looked at maybe a total of 30 or so houses when we were serious about looking. We put offers in on a total of 3 places - one was a new construction that fell through because they wanted more money than the house was going to be worth with how the rate of housing decline was going. One was a townhouse that the guy wanted more money than we felt the place was worth - and the third we were really serious about buying - had all the inspections done and everything - and in the end, our financing fell through. Feel bad about it - but it is what it is. We were a little picky in what we were looking for because I felt strongly that if I was buying this time, I wanted something that I wouldn't feel the need to move from in five years.

Now we are going to rent again - and were a little picky about what we wanted to rent as well - for the same reason. However, the place we are moving into is in a neighborhood we really like, and also had the potential to be a place that we could buy a couple of years down the line if we are able to get the mortgage thing in order.

the place that we almost bought had a great feel to it, and was very close to our "ideal". However, this place also has a great feel to it - and in the end we know it'll be a place where we can be happy for a while, even if we end up renting for the time being.
