anatk1 - Westfield does sound lovely, I just worry about being priced out (and I'm not yet sure if I'm willing to cut way back on my ideal space desires). We will still check out the houses, just in case.

Aimee729 - Although different than the Westfield type of "walkable downtown," I've been told that Chatham (in the borough, not township) is very walkable to everything. Madison also has a cute downtown area near the train station, and if you find a house near it, I imagine that is walkable as well. We are looking into both Chatham and Madison. Oh, and I think someone said Morristown is very walkable?

emily - yes to all 3. morristown is the most reasonable pricewise of all 3. of course, schools-wise, morristown in the most iffy. i don't know what your space req'ts are, but you're not going to find 1+ acres in either of these towns for less than $1M.
