Moving To Morristown? (Hoboken, Newton, Sussex: hardwood floors, apartment, to rent)

I am a 30 year old male thinking about relocating from North Western, NJ to Morristown. Was wondering if anyone had any insight on the town, people, soroundings, housing (rental, purchase), etc...? Most of my days have been spent in Sussex county, and i'm trying to get a feel of what living in a big city, like Morristown, would be like. I heard there is a ton of affordable housing construciton going on. Any help would be apprecaited.

Big city? You must be from Wantage! Just kiddin...my fiancee is from Sussex (just outside of Newton) and Morristown isn't much bigger-it's got a really nice "small city" feel to it. It's got cool architecture, a lot of great nightlife, a decent hotel, and great restaurants. The "green" which the park in the center of town is a great place to hang out. A lot of folks on here will be quick to condemn Morristown because of its immigrant population, illegal and otherwise, but other than that it's a smaller, somewhat less expensive version of Hoboken. I had a buddy that lived in a two bedroom apartment in the building next to a great bar, The Famished Frog. I think he and his roommate were paying $1900 a month or so. Nice place-a well kept old building with beautiful hardwood floors, mouldings, etc... He was working for Ernst and Young in the city and had a blast while he was there. The only reason he left was to take a transfer to Chicago. One last thing-I highly recommend the St. Patrick's Day Parade and Dublin Pub on Pine Street any time of year!

I don't know if I'd consider Morristown "a big city",

It does, however, have a vibrant downtown and very nice surrounding area. I think the question is, why are you considering the move? Bored in Sussex?

What do you consider affordable?? My son is paying $1800.00 for a 1 bedroom apt plus parking
Morristown is nice, lots of nightlife for someone your age but it's not cheap to live there

I Heard about the imigrants, heard they casue all sorts of problems? My friends lives by the courthouse, he says in that area there alot of Spanish, they are loud, dirty, and cause problems. I dont think that will bother me, at lest I hope not, I usually keep to myself. Does anyone know how much to rent just a room might be? Like a room in someone's house.

Try looking on craigslist. It should give you a good idea.

I live inthe town next to Morristown. I'll be honest, I talk a lot of smack about Morris County. But some towns in morris are pretty cool, like Morristown.

however not the most populated town in morris county (that being Parsipanny) Morristown is probably the most urban, and then second most would be dover. both of which are under a "town" form of government, there are no cities in morris county.

in general, morristown is pretty nice. there are some bad neighborhoods and parts with a lot of drugs. school systems are not the best in Morristown. there are a lot of nice, upscale aprtments in Morristown, as well as a bunch of upper/middle class neighborhoods (predominantly white). morristown has great diversity though, with many black neighborhoods as well, and a large latino population around Speedwell Avenue. the only really bad part of Morristown is near the train station, that's where you would go to get your drugs. that's really the only unsafe part of morristown, a lot of weird folks around that area.

well i hope that helped you out. Morristown is like a small city. i think of it as a mini-NYC. lots of things to do there for people to do. a lot of great restaurants/bars/cafes/clubs. whatever you like, morristown probably has it. good luck.
