Autism
I have a son who is autistic, and Parsippany has good programs in district,
and I know out of district they will send you child to good schools, you'll
meet with the CST and they will go everything with you and determine
where you child should be placed. It all depends on age and where your
child falls in the spectrum. Of course, you have to be a resident of Parsippany-troy Hills to even meet them. But I would think if you called
for information they might answer some of your questions. How old is your,
child? And is he/she verbal? write me if I can be of any help.

Allegro School
Hi, I used to work at the Allegro School in Cedar Knolls, NJ (Morris County) as an occupational therapist. It has a fantastic program with all special services at the school itself. I'm not sure about the registration process but they have children from preK on up to high school. Here's a link to their website and good luck! http://www.allegroschool.org/

autism
I personally, as a Mom, did not like Allegro in cedar knolls, it has kids in the
lower end of the spectrum and the whole place is not my cup of tea. If your
daughter is mid to hign funtioning you'll find other schools much brighter and
just more of a place that you want to send your kids. Newer schools, that
just have more of an open mind . The Alpine Learning Group

Jersey Girl, I know your heart was in the right place and I did not mean to offend you in any way, but Allegro was just a bad experience for me, not
a place to send my son who I love so much. Sorry once again........

Not offended
I totally agree you should send your child to the best school you feel is right for him or her. I'm not offended, nor do I know anything about the other places mentioned. As a therapist I can only talk about what I experienced working there. As a mom also I can totally understand you only want the best. I did see changes in the children I treated, but I do agree it all depends on their level of function. Good luck to the both of you!

NancyC, Thanks so much for helping me. Are all those private schools except for Bernards School in Basking Ridge? I know that schools are supposed to send kids to the right placement if they don't have it in their district. But I am worried that I may pick a public school that won't do what's best for the child. And she ends up being in the school with a bad program. Do you know anything about the Bernards school autism program in Basking Ridge? I am looking for small group instructions with no aversives used, aba-based, trained staff. Also, is there a legal ratio of teacher to students in NJ? What about the area in Basking Ridge? Are outside services or activities for kids with ASD available? Thanks again. I appreciate this so much. I cannot sleep at night worrying about this.
JerseygirlinTN, Thanks too. I know that your heart is in the right place.

NancyC, sorry....I just reread your post again and realized that you only recommended 4 schools and they are all private. ANy idea which public schools will send to those schools? Thanks again. I really cannot sleep everynight worrying about this move and especially the school for my daughter because of her needs.

I know that New Beginnings in Fairfield has an excellent program that has been approved to go up to age 21.
I am in the process of opening a special education school in Morris County. The name of the school is the Aurora School which will be located in Whippany NJ. Unfortunetly, starting in September our age level will only go up to age 7 but it will be going up to age 21 in 3 years. If you know of any
parents looking to place their child in our program please have them
contact their local district Director of Special Education and let them know that we are a new program looking to open in September.
Thanks,
Gordon
