Areas in New Jersey
I am looking to move up to New Jersey in about a year. I was wondering if anyone knows of any cities or towns that have a good school system with lots of extra curriculars and low crime rate. I would prefer something close to NYC or philly, and also the housing must be afforable. Where I can get a two story home with four bedrooms for between 400,000-500,000. I wonder if it is possible. Thanks for your help

Did you check CD US Forum for the New Jersey thread? Someone should be able to help.

You can try Union, Cranford, Westfield or Kenilworth. I know Union was voted the 75 best place to live in the US in 2008 but the school system has got worst, mostly from out of town kids going there. Cranford and Westfield are both great towns, although they do have high taxes but thats what keeps them great towns. Kenilworth is a very small town with a great school system. From any of these towns you can get to NYC in 30mins by train or even car if the traffic isnt bad.

I would look into Bergen County NJ which is very close to NYC. There are some excellent schools and with the housing market down, you might find something in that price range. Just to mention a few towns but there are many more
River Edge, Oradell, Emerson, Allendale, Harrington Park and Norwood. Some areas in Bergen County are insanely high but I think these towns might be a good start. There is a website you can browse New Jersey MLS, Search for Homes in Northern New Jersey. Click search properties and click Bergen County. I remembering seeing a house in Allendale for $399,900. Good Luck!

if one of the criteria is affordable stay out of North jersey. its very nice and very expensive up North. We are moving to Burlington county right outside of Philly and the taxes are low(for NJ) the housing is booming, great schools, and lots of sports teams and stuff for the kids to do and the area is beautiful(mix of farms and neighborhoods) safe and lots of shopping and you are close to Cherry hill
click on the Municipalities for a map of the county and then click on each municipality to go to their website. Good info there
