Given your obstinate tone, I highly doubt I will be able to sway you but what can I say, I'm a glutton for punishment.
Prior to WWII, the US government earmarked a relatively small portion of the budget towards the military (<10% in 1940). However, with the onset of WWII, defense spending skyrocketed in the span of only a few years in order to ramp up for the War. At its peak in 1945 had reached the astronomical level of 47% of GDP, or over $800 billion in 1945. By comparison, current GDP spending is about 3.5% or around $450 billion. It was this rapid infusion of spending and need for jobs that I was referring to in WWII. For comparison, if we spent as much today on defense as we did during WWII, the defense budget would be 6.5 Trillion dollars. Makes $450 billion seem like a steal eh?
While we do use ammo, trucks, etc in the Iraqi war, we have not seen anything like the infusion of dollars and spending like in WWII. Most likely it is because the American military machine has been in full force since WWII, whereas prior to WWII, it was virtually non-existent.

Look........you can quote as many facts are you want to from 70 years ago but the bottom line here in 2009 is that the 12 billion a month we're spending on the military, its equipment and operations is bankrupting us. Don't tell me that the weapons manufacturers and the technolgy research and development companies that drives them are laying off people and losing money.

What on earth are you talking about- that wasn't my point at all. Wow...
I'm sorry to confound you with line graphs, and facts- I will be sure to not include them next time I try to discuss a topic with you.

No, by all means, don't listen to my wisdom. I'm nobobyd. I simply asked you to listen to the wisdom of one of the smartest minds of the 20th century, Milton Friedman, a nobel prize winning economists that dedicated his life to informing people about freedom and prosperity. Your government is trying to take both away from you and you are cheering them on while they do it. You two think I'm telling you how you are supposed to think. I'm not. I'm encouraging you to learn, not from me, but from a genius. I simply encouraged you to read one of the greatest voices in our lifetime and decide for yourself. Apparently, it's asking too much.

The defense of the country is one of the things actually outlined inthe Constitution. Protect the country, fix the roads and get the hell out of the way!

haha, I already explained in another post that the dust bowl wasn't the cause of people starving during the great depression. You bozos tried referencing an article that openly stated that FDR went and slaughtered all their livestock on them. That's why they starved. Furthermore, there was no dust bowl in New Jersey, yet people had no food there either. Hmm....I wonder why. I give up with you two. You can't even remember a post 2 pages back, let alone what really happened 80 years ago.
