Question Do People Live in Atlantic City? (Need major relocation help)

Okay, I have an odd situation. I am a 23 year old female living in Atlanta, ga. My job has relocated me to work in a location in Pleasantville. I leave in a week and a half. I'm a southern girl and I've never been past Georgia in my life (except for the 3 days spend in NYC) and I know nothing about New Jersey.

For the week that I've known I've been looking for an apartment or home rental but nothing has been that great to me and I've been looking for Luxury apartments but there seem to be only a few that claim that title. And even fewer that would keep my commute under 35 minutes. I wanted a place in a nice area where more single people lived rather than families and my range is $1000 - $1400. I also wanted an area that has many things around, like shopping, grocery stores, restaurants etc. If anyone is familiar w/ Atlanta, I live in Buckhead which is absolutely wonderful.

I really want to live in a condo and I found quite a few listing in Atlantic City and Ventnor City which would make my commute like 10 - 15 min. My problem is, I posted on a forum and people told me that it wouldn't be wise to live in Atlantic City b/c it gets congested during the summer w/ tourist. Also, in most of the listings I found, they are already furnished and I am wondering if these are solely vacation rentals? Even though some listings state that the term is 1 year, I'm trying to figure out if there's some yearly vacation rental thing that I don't know about. Why do so many condos come already furnished?

Any insight as to how rentals up there work would be greatly appreciated. Also, any insight regarding moving from Atlanta to South NJ is very much needed. I am so clueless right now.

TIA

All those shore towns are going to be congested in the summer, try looking out by May's Landing.

OK, I hate to be a downer but, here's the scoop. I have lived in Georgia, many other southern states, and now in NJ (originally from NJ). I have worked in Atlantic City and the vacinity.. I know Atlantic County very well. It is going to be a culture shock for you moving here. Who do you work for? Pleasantville is a dive and unsafe, Atlantic City has a few areas that are ok but, nothing like the metropolis Atlanta is. AC is a casino city and not as nice as Las Vegas, if you've been there. Shopping etc. is everywhere in Atlantic County. But, young people looking for others is not. In your price range you may have to drive 20 mins or so to work to get something nice, clean, and safe. Mays Landing was a good suggestion from billb7581. Linwood, Northfield, Ocean City, Longport, Margate nice communities with higher rentals and all get busy and congested in the summer. One thing to keep in mind and I don't want to sound like a racist.. we have many different cultures living in this area due to the casinos. People from all over the world some very nice, clean, and educated... some not. I find the people a little more friendly and easy going in the south than here- not impossible to make friends... we're just a little more harsh here. Good luck..

Everything you've read from the previous entries is true. I am very familiar with Georgia and the Carolinas and now live in Atlantic County. The locals call this area, "dirty jerz" and there's a reason for that. Trash all over the roadways; people here do not respect their communities... I don't get it. I am also from this area originally and seriously considering a permanent relocation south or north. My advice to you would be... stay south, kiddo! If you are looking for a young person's city where you can go to the corner cafe, meet friends, or just hang out... not here in S. Jersey. My daughter lives in Phili and that's more of a young person's city due to the many colleges. And yes, you must be tolerant of other cultures that live here. We are very much in a hurry here compared to the south. Customer service in restaurants, stores, etc. is not as friendly or welcoming as in the south; people here just do their jobs without any extra effort. If you like the beach, the summers are great. Beautiful beaches, lively boardwalks... it's the best. Just be patient with the traffic. You are going to cringe when you see Pleasantville.. good luck with that.

Not sure about exact commute time, but what about Pomona or Little Egg Harbor? Aren't those generally nice areas? And Stockton is right there, so there should be no shortage of younger people.

Veggieck - ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? about the customer service up here - doing jobs without extra effort compared to the south???? You're lucky to even be looked at in the south when you go in to a store - AND most act like they're doing you a favor when they help you. The rest of your post is on the money though.
