If you think Weehawken is equivalent to Compton, you need to get out of the house more. Is it anywhere near as nice as Alpine, not a chance. But lets keep things in perspective here. Compton it is not.

I'm sure most adults would agree with me, at least I think they would. Alpine is clearly the nicer town. But you just have to outweigh your priorities. Do you want a nice, safe, small, quiet community like Alpine? Or do you want to live in a more convenient and urban location like Weehawken, but you sacrifice some of the safety that would have in Alpine.
it sounds like most people are thinking Alpine. is there anyone who suggested Weehawken to you over Alpine? I'm curious as to what they would say.

we all know that. Tahiti was just using it as a comparison. she was just trying to point out the sharp contrast between Alpine and Weehawken.

I initially recommended Weehawken, for the very reasons you mentioned.
I was born & raised in Hudson county, and I treasure those memories.
but, paying more than double the property taxes in Weehawken than in Alpine... man, that's hard to reconcile

I've lived right next to Weehawken all my life and I would choose Alpine any day over Weehawken. I'll tell you one thing I read in the newspaper a few months ago about Weehawken that was not very good. The gang "the Bloods" have been caught meeting in Weehawken on Blvd. East. The gang members said it is a convenient area for them to meet with the gang members from NYC.
Definitely go to Alpine while your kids are younger and then see what happens as they get into the teenage years. You may find that you might even want to move somewhere else in NJ later on.

Well Alpine is full of rich snobs, and Weehawken is full of minorities
Alpine elementary, and middle are supposed to be good, and they go to tenafly high school
Weehawken schools are supposedly bad
Funny, I went to play a game an organized youth basketball in alpine against their local team, and those kids were so obnoxious
They thought they were tough stuff, but guarantee you go tell them to play against kids from weehawken they would wet their diapers
They only act tough around other rich kids
but you can make your own decision
