Default What is considered the Gregory section in West Orange?

Is it considered nice and safe or on its way downhill to bad area? I am considering on purchasing a place near Hazel elementary and Gregory elementary school? The area appears to be nice, but is it really?

Thanks for your feedback and comments.

Prices are falling, foreclosures are rising ... who knows what the landscape will look this in a year or two. I'd recommend saving your money, build up a bigger down payment, and let home values stop sinking before jumping in and making such a big purchase. Only then will you be sure what the neighborhood will look like, and you'll also save yourself a great deal of money as prices are predicted to fall 25% in 2009 alone, who knows after that.

My husband and I moved to Gregory in West Orange from NY almost a year ago. I almost let some of the posters on here scare us off but we found an amazing house for a great price and are glad we made the decision. I have no complaints about safety - we both work late hours and I often have to walk home from the bus after dark.

We are both professionals and we are meeting a lot of people with similar backgrounds, many who move from the city and/or work in the city. Commuting to NY was a big factor in our decision - my husband takes the free shuttle to either the SO or Orange train station and I either take the Coach bus that's a short walk from my house or I drive into the city. Some of the other towns we were being steered towards (Summit, New Providence, Maplewood, Montclair) aren't as easy to commute to. West Orange (the Gregory section most of all) is a great area of town for commuting.
