theoakman,
thumbsup to you on your previous post. by the way, I still think we shoudl not be afraid of insecurities. I think I now understand where your fear came from. its because you are conservative
I have dismissed new bruns from my new home town, for the simple reason that I am staying there with my family. If I was alone. I would have walked like a lion on the streets of newbruns and dealt with the ghetto people.

block911 ,
yours is a great observation pure capitalism will demand cheap manufacturing nad labor supply. This is why most conservatives like Lou Dobb corrected their viewpoints. But I ask, what is wrong if job goes overseas? Let the third nation prospoer. If one is really intelligent they will always create new ways and create new jobs. I don't think there is end to innovation. Such end thinking fits liberals because they think from their heart. Sure a rich man does care about a poor man. I do not accept a government should tell a rich man what to do? Government is like a pimp , hard to trust when one tries to hook up. Be cautious. Government is not the solution but a problem as Reagan used to say.

Anyhow...

Oh before I go , I forget that guys name was it kamin something....
You saw socialism in Europe because they were imperialist and practiced free trade. They were reaping all the benefits all this time, but not for long. Go and check Sweden out , they are becoming capitalist now.... no kidding. Also America is America not Europe. We have moved away from Gold long ago and made dollar the new yellow metal. It is in our interest that dollar remains strong. We can still be the shiny nation on the hill as Reagan has envisioned.

Haha...look at the economic dunces that are writing the stimulus bill now. No doubt they have a great heart (Communism), but when it comes to economics (capitalism) they are dolts. Gee, I can't imagine what fools America has become. Inspite of seeing Jimmy Carters failures with a democrat senate majority, how can they repeat the same mistake in this election?

I pity the liberals because they keep doing the same thing over and over again and expecting the same results.

I understand that ......but.......logically speaking if property values have dropped on the average of 9% nationwide then assessments should follow. Logically.....assessments can't remain the same or increase.....they have to drop also.

This post was about a tax increase of 27%......our personal job, health and home situation have nothing to do with the tax increase......by introducing this as a "factor" it would seem to you are attempting to somehow make it more acceptable based upon "todays climate" ? Its not ......27% is not acceptable whether your jobless, homeless or sick.....its a sign that we have elected inept people to represent us. If we sit back as say at least we aren't critically ill how does that change anything ?

You make it sound like rocket science......its not that "complicated" ....its no secret that actual sales prices have dropped and are still dropping. If assessments haven't dropped too then they need to....if they don't then homeowners need to start requesting reassessment based upon purchase prices and local comps of houses sold within the last six months.

by sale price , i mean final price the house was sold for a new home or purchase price per your definition. it is not that easy for new home. Can you really bargain and ask outrageous amounts to be deducted from the asking price? Oh, please give me some tips, because I am looking at a home right now and I know the seller/builder won't budge much. He has already dropped the price 25k from last 1 year.

What about people still paying taxes on assessed values? Sure they can file for tax appeal and may be their tax will reduce. The original post is in regard to north bergen. its part of that crowded towns in bergen county and close to newyork. may be it is indeed short on budget deficit. most other towns like Matawan, etc have already reassessed the property. Some towns are smart when they tax based on sale price. so if i negotiate very well and the seller agrees, then my property tax is automaticlaly low. this happens mostly in rural towns. in suburbs its hard to expect low taxes.

Again north bergen is a bit odd. Were their residents paying low taxes all along and their homes real tax values are now catching up? for example in matawan older 100k homes are now valued at 350k after tax assessment. they also include land price in the calculations not just the value of the building. the cost to build a home is not much. it is the land underneath that is expensive.

Flyerfan,
I think the hike was to make up for the loss from decreasing value.

Noone in particulare,
I was edited earlier by the moderator and I don't understand it. I simply pointed out that someone was racist as could easily be seen by reading their posts.
I was also edited a second time in the same post for a personal attack? I don't even get what that is about.

To best answer your question, NJ could be a better state if we could somehow break the beleaguered taxpayers free from the unholy trinity of corrupt political machines, their pay-to-play cronies and too-powerful public employee unions.

How to accomplish that, I don't know. It's seems to be well too ingrained in NJ's political culture.

The political machines are smart enough to keep inititive and referendum from the citizens so I'm not sure we can even vote our way out.

Maybe that's one reason why moving companies show NJ as an "outflow" state. Along with Michigan.

Aside from home, health and employment being a non-sequitur to the 27% tax hike, the last thing those people need is another in a long line of tax hikes.
