I saw the thread about the 27% tax increase in West NY and as bad as that % is, it's not nearly as bad as Hoboken's 47% increase last fall.

Hoboken's 47 percent tax hike slows down real estate market - Hoboken Now - NJ.com

Property tax for my 2BR condo was 5.5K, now it's over 8k!!!! And I don't even have a backyard! :P

And to Dangerous-Boy, I'm afraid this is NOT a good time to buy in Hoboken.

No offense, but Hoboken shouldn't even be an Abbot district.

Therefore, your taxes are still lower than they should be.

If you own in Hoboken, you can afford any tax hike. Everything in hoboken is expensive. Its like complaining about gas prices when driving a hummer. I dont wanna hear it.

????

A quick glance at njmls.com for condos in hoboken turned up a whole bunch for under $400,000. Someone who wants to spend that much on housing could buy a single family detached house in a lot of towns that would not be considered wealthy, at all. Not everyone who lives in Hoboken is a millionaire and some people don't like living in the burbs.

Everything in Hoboken is WAY overpriced. I really don't know why people insist on living there when there are other better nearby towns. If you want to live there then deal with it because I don't think Hoboken is anything special. They raise the tax %47 and people still stay? They are going to get as much from you as they can. I want no part of Hoboken.

Thats all. People are paying 20K on houses in West New York on 25 by 100 lots. Gotta love Jersey.

Why don't you tell that to my neighbors who have been living here 20+ years when a Hoboken condo was less than 50K. These are the same people who are now being forced out 'cus they will be paying more in property tax than in mortgage...

And for you info, just like gradstudent mentioned, not everyone who lives in Hoboken is rich. Many are middle class folks who just choose to sacrifice on living space to be closer to the city ...
