Does anyone know if you need a permit to park a 49cc scooter at the berkeley heights train station?

I have tried calling the parking and permit division all week and no one answers. I called the police department non-emergency and the officer I spoke with said... "you could try it"... WTF does that mean?

That's ridiculous. But from my experience cops LOVE to ticket vehicles at train stations.

I'm not even sure if I have to have a motorcycle license here in NJ with a 49cc scooter. I checked the NJ Motor Vehicle commission website, but it does not clearly specify. It says anything over 50cc you need a motorcycle license... but anything under 50cc must be a moped with PEDALS... so what do I do about a Honda Metropolitan Scooter at 49cc?

Ok, so I called the police station back and got a different person. I asked about parking a 49cc scooter, he said, what like a Vespa? I said yeah, but actually smaller than that (Vespa's are typically 150cc). He said you have to have a parking permit for any motorized vehicle. I said... you mean I have to take up a full parking space for a scooter no bigger than a moped? He said yeah. How dumb is that?

I would give it a try. Is there a bicycle rack? I am pretty sure people do it all the time at Ridgewood.
Do you have a motorcycle license? Is it a metro (37mph) or metro 2 (26mph)?

I haven't even purchased it yet. I am trying to find ways to get to the train station that's a little over a mile away. It's the 2009 Honda Metropolitan Base Model 49cc. I think the top speed is 40mph.
I'm not sure, but I think based on what I read at the NJ MVC - I will have to get a motorcycle license.

The other issue is... that since this scooter only weights 170lbs, it needs to be secured to something otherwise, someone will just pick it up, stick it in the back of a truck and drive away with it.

if it goes 40mph its a Metropolitan (I not II) and is a "motorcycle" - definitely need a license. I would try the bike rack and lock it up there. hard to figure out if the cops will care or not without trying it though.
