Hi all. I was laid off yesterday. My former company had been in NYC, but moved to NJ on April 1, 2008. I know I can't file for unemployment online because of that "18 months in NJ" rule, but I'm just wondering if the NY/NJ split will affect benefits any. Thanks all.

I don't think that would affect your benefits. Your benefits are paid according to the state YOU live in.

I thought it was the state you worked in? I may be wrong but if you worked in NY and live in NJ, you file with NY unemployment?? This is what I thought?

I recently used the unemployment website, I am in state...but i saw a link with instructions for if you live in state, but work out of state. I think it explains the separate rules.

You are right, it's the state you worked in. My boss lived in PA and she is collecting from NJ. because that's the state the company was in.
