Default Questions about Fanwood anyone??

We're about to put an offer on a house in Fanwood. We originally were going for Westfield but didn't have much luck there. I wasn't giving up even though we were outbidded 3 times and after the 4th, I gave up on Westfield and I'm fine with that.

Well anyway we decided to drive around and drove to Scotch Plains and Fanwood. I have to say that I fell in love with Fanwood!! We took our son to a park not far from the train station, we met some people (very nice). I checked out the school rating and they ranked 69 which I think is pretty good. I also fell in love with a house and I thought it was great. So I would like to know a little more if anyone knows anything about Fanwwod. I would appreciate it.

Thank you

I have friends in Fanwood and they really like it. They don't have kids in school but I think you're right, that's a good school district. (Other friends in Scotch Plains have a little kid in elementary school and they like the school, and I think ScotchPlains-Fanwood share a school district.)

Good luck with your offer. Try not to let emotion creep into the negotiations ... if this one doesn't work out, there'll be another one. Plenty of fish in the sea.

Hi Lusitan-
Thanks for the info. Yea I try not to let it get to me but it's really hard from that happening. I think our realtor is actually coming over in about an hour so we can sign the papers once again for an offer.: )
thanks

I'll be in Fanwood on Friday and Saturday... crawling around in the attic of one of those old beautiful victorians - installing central A/C. I too think it's an adorable town. I'll see if I can get some information from my clients... they just moved in a year ago.

Our broker showed us around Fanwood and it seemed like a very quaint town that shares schools with Scotch Plains. Fanwood seems like a great alternative to Westfield.

My husband and I are looking to buy in Westfield in the next few months, and I am surprised in this market that you got outbid on 4 houses....are these houses that were new to the market? Did they end up selling for over asking price? I'm trying to get a feel as to how quick you have to move once you find something and how much under asking people are bidding.

My brother and his family have lived in Fanwood for almost a decade now - and they love it. It's a nice town, with a genuine community spirit. The schools (Scotch Plains-Fanwood School District) are very good. Good luck - it's a great place to live/raise kids!

Hi guys
Well I just found out that we got the house in Fanwood. I'm really excited. I hope the commute will be ok for me to NYC for work. The house is within walking distance to the train. I'm sooooooo excited.

Well we didn't get the first 2 houses in Westfield because We were planning on closing at the end of march and the sellers did not like that at all , so they found someone that wanted to close right away. The other 2 houses we didn't get because someone offered above the asking price. And all 4 houses we looked into there was about 2-4 people bidding on them. I was running out of time and had to find something soon and Westfield was just stressing me out. and I'm glad we drove through Fanwood.

My friend just bought a house there and loves it so far. They are also walking distance to the train and haven't had any problems with the commute (into NYC) so far. They made offers on two different houses and the owners of both were moving but staying in Fanwood. I think that's a great sign!

Congrats

Just keep your cool during the inspection process, and don't settle for any major issues like underground oil tanks (Wiley is our resident expert on that topic, but the bottom line is they're bad news).

Good luck!
