Where to donate good childrens books?
My last child is starting to grow out of some books and I want to donate them to a school in need or some such thing. Anyone have any ideas, my local schools don't need them because we are on the 'you've got to be kidding me...how much'?!!! property tax

Town?
What towns? We donate & buy used books at the Allentown library. Good luck. It's a nice thing you are doing.

Have you tried...
The public library or the Hospital Childrens ward? Just trying to help.

Many libraries and school districts run fund raisers with just the books you are talking about. They sell the donated used books. That is how my kids get 95% of theirs.

First place I'd check is your local public library. After that, are there any of those second-hand "baby stuff" stores around you? They buy/sell all sorts of child-related stuff, from clothes to strollers to books/toys etc.
You could also advertise them on Freecycle, and I'm sure someone would be happy to take them off of your hands for free.
P.S. I think it's a nice thing to donate them, but do your kids a favor and save a few of their favorite books, even if they think they don't want them anymore. My mom got rid of all of our childrens books when we were in high school, but now that I'm a father I wish I had some of those books for my own kids.

+1!
My Mom did keep my books and I now get to reminisce from time to time about those times when my Mom and Dad would read them to me. Yeah, at least this guy enjoys doing that.
If the local library won't actually put them on the shelves, I would suggest checking with the Children's Hospital at RWJ as someone else suggested and also the Ronald McDonald House in New Brunswick to see if they would have a need for the books.
Hope this helps.

I would also say freecycle. Children's items get picked up quickly in my area.

I'm not familiar with your area, but if there are any Abbott Districts close by, you could try there. I work in Elizabeth and I would love to take them for my school but it's too far.

Children's wards/waiting rooms, hospitals...pediatric doctor's offices...daycare facilities, Boys and Girls clubs and/or YMCA/YWCA...anywhere where there is a daycare esp serving underserved populations, same with grammar schools in poorer districts, libraries..I gave my son's books to the grammar school for the classrooms.
