Question Moving to N. NJ & Need Help with High Schools

W. Morris Mendham, Voorhees, Randolph, Watchung Hills, Mt. Olive, Madison, Ridge, Millburn, Chatham, Livingston.
I know this is a wide area . We are looking at school systems and we are down to these. We have visited the area and are aware of the varying housing prices in these areas. I know all of the schools are academically good. But we have had a past experience with reannexation in another state- and I am trying to avoid that nightmare again. I am looking more for imformation on social or school district dilemmas that I should avoid. Any feedback- (especially positive) on schools is appreciated.

avoid Mt. Olive - schools not good considering tax rate. lots of problems. i don't think you have to worry about redistricting with any of these schools - although I thought i saw someone post that a lot of kids from newark are bussed to Millburn? i really can't speak to that though.

Thanks for the link. I have already checked out these high schools on a similar site. I am pretty set on the academics and was just trying to get more information from the community- the kind of things that are not posted on relocation/ school information sites or the school web sites.

I am friends with people that live in Short Hills/Millburn and, yes, Essex County is planning on redistricting the school and start bussing students from Newark into the better schools like Millburn.

If you are looking at living out near Voorhees, you should really check out North Hunterdon. Better school system than Voorhees.

Hello RoyceB,

Is all of Essex County affected by taking in students from Newark?

And if that is the case what county/Township would you recommend for a couple and two kids and a family income of 170k annually to move to?

Thanks in advance!

This has been a rumor for a very long time. I have never seen any proof that this is even being considered. That being said, the rumor has only been about Millburn, not other towns. I'll believe it when I see it though. The money in Millburn will never let it happen.

I definitely think the students from Newark would have to meet certain academic criteria if they were to go to Millburn schools (If, of course, the whole moving Newark students to Millburn schools is at all true)

i do not live in millburn/short hills. but i hate this socialist idea. in new jersey, school system is one of the most importanct factors when people choose where they live. people paid high premium in these great towns and work hard to keep their schools get better. but trenton people, a lot of them from abbott districts, want to take it away.
