Oak Street Commons Rockaway
I am looking at an apartment in Oak Street Commons in Rockaway NJ. I was wondering if anyone could give me any information about the area, school district etc. We are first time home buyers. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Rockaway is a great area...average school systems, low crime - great first time home buyer area in NJ.. but are you looking to rent or buy? Your original post is a bit confusing.
I don't know about that specific development or apr. complex but I do know that Rockaway is a nice town.

That may be the Borough? Still a nice area... I'd check to see if they still have an active train - looks pretty close to where you are looking. There's a small park just down the road in the borough...and another larger park / lake area with swimming as well. Nice little main street... good pizza joint ... tons of shopping nearby and I think it's a good area for future resale - close to Rt. 80.

Is it Borough or Township? Big difference in schools IMO.

It's in the borough but in a somewhat industrial area. If you drive down Hoagland Ave, there's an elementary school (special needs I think) and a Methodist church right across the street. There's another street that runs perpendicular and right there is a small lake (Parks Lake) with a walking path around it, part of the lake is in Rockaway Borough and part is in Rockaway Township, I believe it's less than a mile to walk around the lake. The Twsp. side has a gazebo and in the summer there's bands there every Sunday afternoon for 6 wks or so. The Boro side has a small swim area w/ a lifeguard(s), there's also a swim team, also a small playground and a volleyball net set up for teens (but for that, I think you have take out a summer membership, no clue how much that is anymore. There's joggers and people walking their dogs, others pushing strollers, people of all ages sitting on the benches watching the swans and geese etc. My understanding is schools are pretty good but I can't say for sure. Seems to be a good location and only about 2 miles from the mall, convenient to other stores as well.

We went to see the condo and saw the industrial area and that didn't sit well with us we looked at another one on Richard Mine Road which seems very nice but I can't find a straight answer online as to whether it is in Wharton or Rockaway listings are under both towns depending where you look. Anyone know the real answer?
