Cigarettes????????????
Anyone buy some this weekend? If so what did you pay???
Hubbie said the deli he buys his at had a big sign about price increase and he paid $7.50 for a pack of Marlboros...sign also said they are going up again in April
This is not a discusssion on the cons of smoking..so please keep your non smoking opinions to yourself.... Just think if this increase forces many people to quit they are going to be coming after something you enjoy to tax to make up for the lost cigarette taxes
Just curious as to what peeps may have paid over the weekend

And I was going to say "Perfect time to quit!" (in a jokingly manner, of course. I'm not going to tell people what to do/what not to do...everyone has a vice).
Does make me happy that I don't smoke, though. Some of my friends' wallets get raped daily or every other day by buying those (that brand, to be precise). I remember when I first found out the price of a pack and/or carton, and about pottied on myself

I smoke on occasion, usually either out socially or during stressful moments. DW smokes daily. I say if I'm going to die & go to hell, I might as well do it while enjoying life's delicious sins.

If they are so bad, why not just ban the product? Oh wait, that would be a loss of tax revenue. The politicians call it a sin tax: I call the politcians full of $hi*.
Kate is absolutely correct (as usual) in her observation: the tax on smoking will be a gateway to tax other forms of behavior government (on the surface) does not approve of. Trans fats, alcohol, etc. This is the pusillanimous, craven mentality that politicians regularly invoke to compensate for previous fiscal inpropriety. When politicians propose irresponsible spending, they will subsequently hide behind a banner to make it all good. "The children" is the most frequently used, but "it's for your own good, safety first" is also very effective (especially with affluent, suburban parents). These regulations are another example of an iron fist contained inside a velvet glove.

Your hubby is a Genius!!! LOL
Our Carton usually lasts between 7 to 10 days, depending on how much smoking we're doing.
