Hello, I am looking for some help regarding what I should do. I have a beautiful 10 month old little boy, and was just let go from my 10 year job. Ever since I was old enough for working papers I was at work. I feel like such a looser & that I failed as a mother loosing my job. Friday, I applies for unemployment and waiting for the "package" to be sent to me. I also just moved into a rental that this month's rent is covered but who knows for April. If any thing good can come from this horrible feeling of loosing my job, I would like to better my education and look into possibly going to school. I am not looking for a free hand out-- but yet as of now have no income coming in. Can anybody out there direct me in sigle mom help-- and maybe school assistance--- Actually any assistance at all.. . .I really am desperate right now. ..
Thanks in advance & look forward to chatting with new people
Go to the unemployment office and ask if there are any funds available for retraining.
If there are funds there are many programs you can get into, the state pays the cost & you continue to collect. I think the program can not be longer than 1 year in duration..so you have business school or medical, dental assistant.
You are not a loser because you lost your job. one you've had for 10 years so don't beat yourself up!!
Get into healthcare if you can put the time into training. That seems like a decent paid profession that should have security in it long term. (People always get sick)
Also, your packet (I should know, just got mine) will have information regarding job training possibilities offered through the state. Information wasn't really specific (it was pretty much a flyer), but might be a good starting place.
Hang in thereāit's SUCH a challenging time. I wish you (and any other laid off C-D'ers) the best.
You should get unemployment benefits for six months. You'll get a letter for an appointment with a claims examiner by phone (be truthful because you will be under oath). After your telephone appointment with your claims examiner you should get additional forms in the mail on how to claim and when. It depends on why you were let go, the only way you can't collect anything at all is if you quit or were fired for something criminal (such as theft, violence in the workplace, sexual harassment). Your former employer can contest your claim because it is their right BUT they have to follow procedure, meaning they have to show cause why they're contesting it. They also cannot lie because when they speak to your claims examiner they're under oath. Ultimately I wouldn't worry about the process too much, just follow the proper procedures and you'll be fine.
About education and school assistance your local unemployment office has tuition waiver programs available. I strongly advise taking night school classes so it doesn't interfere with your efforts to seek work.

If you are planning on attending school, your unemployment benefits will most likely be extended plus I believe there is grant money available to you to pay for your education. First things first... sign up for healthcare benefits thru the state if you don't have any at the moment. Someone else recommended nursing or the medical field... great advice! Seems that the only peole hiring lately are hospitals/doctors. You may also look into housing assistance and utility assistance. I'll see if I can find the websites for you. Also, where's dad in all of this?

If you go through a training program endorsed & paid for through unemployment you are exempt from having to look for work until after the program is completed....makes sense

That's right Wiley.. O/P..also check into subsudized day care while you are retraining...
and before Lusitan, oakman and xmonger chime in and start bashing us for helping this woman out... the OP is looking to better herself - looking to continue to contribute to our society so back off!
