Middletown NJ and commuting into NYC
Hello
I am entertaining the idea of moving to Middletown,NJ. Simply put, I like the town, and I like the bay area. My only question of concern is getting into NYC. I did some research and found that the Academy Bus Lines are close by and can be picked up on Route 36. How is the commute from Middletown into NYC? I'd love to hear all the good and not so good about the commuting experience. Please share your stories and comments.
I would also welcome hearing some feedback from Middletown residents who know more about the town then just a person like myself who has driven through it many times and admires it from just visiting.

Commuter ferries
Used to be a ferry that ran out of the Highlands direct to Manhattan.

I live in Hazlet and take the bus that goes down 36. I think your commute is 10-15 minutes longer than mine. I think a lot depends on the kind of commute you're used to and where you're moving from. Personally I don't mind the commute at all. My bus picks me up at 7:25 and I am in my office near Wall Street by 9am. I take the 5:10pm back from the 1st stop downtown and I'm home by 6:30. None of this bothers me because I read on the bus and I can walk to and from. Other people just go right to sleep. The people are far more civilized than the animals I had to ride with in NYC. The traffic is lighter in the summer so the ride is shorter then. I wouldn't do it if I had to either drive to the bus or get on after the first stop in Manhattan on the way home. By the third stop on the 5:10 there are often no seats left. I also like that the pass is good on weekends - it's really easy to go to the city for the day if I feel like it. Much cheaper than driving. I've been doing it for wow, 7 months now and I don't mind it any more than I did the first day.

The ferry is an option - but it's -expensive-. Like $500 - $600/month expensive.
