Default Fishing in NJ

With spring approaching, I would like to try my hand at fishing. Never owned a rod, never filleted a fish, but I'd like to change that this year.

I went fishing a few times in summer when younger (Captree, in LI) and caught some fluke/flounder.

What kind of saltwater fish fit for food are available to northern NJ residents? Where can I sail out from? (boat rentals, where you pay 20 bucks)

Very common sea creature - native to the NJ shoreline.

I've been fishing for New Jersey fresh and salt water for almost 60 years but not much in North Jersey.....mostly down at LBI for summer fluke but this winter I plan to try my hand at winter flounder at LBI also....half my relatives are in Canada so I do some fishing up there too. Its been a long time since I had to rent a boat since I have my own now (the "Fluke You") but I can tell you that you can't rent one for $20. I can tell you for my money the best eating fish available around here is the summer fluke....hands down.

I meant charter boats, those that take a lot of people and offer free rods; they stop at certain parts of the water and have staff that help you with the rods and fillet your fish for you if you want.

You don't have to go out as far as LBI. You can get on the deep sea fishing boats in Atlantic Highlands and Highlands for flounder and blues....and tuna

I grew up with a girl whose dad owned one of those boats and now her brother runs it.

I'll get on FB and ask her what the charge is but $20...(no way...think $60 but they also feed you.)

I'll be back...lol

Shanny

Oh...I just remembered the name of the boat is called, "The Fishermen"

This is what my friend just wrote on my fb

I believe my bro charges $38 for the day..there is food for sale on board (there is a galley and grill) rods are extra I think $3.00...I know some boats go three quarter day (such as my bro) and some go full day ..Ron goes 3/4 day because he also does a night trip from 3:30 til 10 PM. The Fishermen..Atlantic Highlands Harbor.. Capt Ron Santee, Jr..owner...732-871-1925.

Have fun!

culater88 is on a distinguished road
There are lakes & reservoirs in NNJ that you can fish in, make sure you double check to see if you need a permit first.
