LOL - make millions? These companies were dead in the water, whatever happened to the basic idea that if your company goes to crap, you don't get a bonus? It's been that way pretty much every place I've ever worked -- that's what it means to work for a company, you're part of a team and you sink or swim together.

The bottom line is that without the federal govt bail outs, these companies would have gone bankrupt and had zero assets to pay anybody anything; the employees would all be unemployed, receiving no healthcare, no salary, and no bonus.

The employees should be thankful for what they did get -- which is charity from the taxpayers and the federal govt. At least they still have a job and still have healthcare, which is far more than many Americans.

Cue the world's smallest violin playing the world's saddest song for all the financial "wizards" from failed Wall St. companies who won't be getting a nice bonus ...

So by your rationale all bonuses (from bailed-out companies) should be taxed at 90%. Regardless of Income levels... Right?

Selective legislation is no better than mob rule.

It goes to show how dumbed down our current leaders are compared to the Founding Fathers who crafted this great nation.

Can you imagine what our current crop would come up with if they were given the task? Yikes!!!!

Yes - the people who work for these companies should be kissing the govt's @ss just for the fact that they still have a job at all. Nobody at these companies should get a bonus -- these companies failed.

I don't care if a department did well; I don't care if the guys who eat lunch together and sit on the south side of the 7th floor at AIG did well; I don't care if Joe Schmoe in office #234 had a good year. You're part of a team, part of the company, and the company failed miserably.

This sets a dangerous precedent. Government was not meant to have, nor should have, this kind of power. For congress to give themselves the power to retroactively tax bonuses that were legally contracted for is very frightening. It indicates that they can target anyone at anytime no matter that the fault lies completely with them.

The time has come to stand up for freedoms given to us under the Constitution or this administration will chip away at them one by one.

Perhaps you can explain to us what part of the constitution it violates and how.

Are you talking about al-qaeda?

At least this makes more sense than selecting some to pay the tax and others not so much.

Perhaps you can explain to us how this is "selective legislation". This the right of the gov to determine the tax to the companies that receive bailouts. In fact, it should not have been limited to 5bil.
