I used to work the EMS ambulance in Trenton for several years and that's where I got most of my violent crime experience at. Trenton has a growing gang problem as well. Stay away I strongly advise you. Maybe West Windsor?

Trenton doesn't have a growing gang problem, the United States has a growing gang problem AND a national rise in crime. I was mugged in Times Square, stay away

Don't know what you went through at EMS but I do know that crime isn't limited to Trenton (which can be rough)

The gang problem in Trenton has grown increasingly worse over the last 10 years alone. I happen to know quite a few cops in Trenton that also say the same thing.

Trenton is now ranked as the #14th most dangerous city in the U.S. (and that was in 2005). That's way up from it's #33 position back in 2000.

I never said it is limited to Trenton, but the crime rate per capita was ranked # 7 in the nation when I worked there, and that was back in 1999. It's gotten worse and I wouldn't advise anyone to move there.

Maybe I'm just too urban-built for my own good. I don't go to Trenton often but I do know it has a nice downtown area and some of the surrounding suburbs are nice. I tend to see the part of a city I would visit and/or live because I believe every city has it's parts(good or bad). It's like when people rag on Newark, I don't see what people should avoid, I see what people should embrace

ditto jerseyj - the only other area I would consider living in, in Trenton, would be Mill Hill...and maybe certain streets of Chambersburg.

Anyone who even hints that Trenton is an OK place is in denial. Even the islands know as Mill Hill...and Chambersburg are out of the question as far as I'm concerned. I used to frequent many of the resturants in the "Burg" but gave that up when GF and I began to notice small groups of male thugs trolling the areas checking car door locks etc. Wny on earth would anyone want to live amongst that sort. Lifes way too short too waste energy combating trash like that.

If you really need to convince yourself borrow a police scanner from someone and listen in to the types of crimes and what goes on all night long in Trenton verses outlaying suburbs such as Hamilton,Ewing,Lawrenceville etc. The difference is staggering. The papers don't even hint at the problems.

Default Given up on Trenton idea

I've pretty much given up on the idea of living in Trenton. Once I even have to worry about crime, I'm impacted by it. I don't want my thoughts and actions dictated by always being on guard. And no one mentioned any good things about life in Trenton. If I was going to live in Manhattan I'd put up with having to be cautious about my safety, because I'd be living in an exciting, dynamic, entertaining city. I am not getting the same sense about Trenton.

Anyway, we looked at Cranbury (very cute - looks like it may be hard to find something in their limited housing stock. but definitely a little bit of Americana) and Lambertville (just too long a commute to Princeton). We may put in an offer on an ugly overpriced home in Princeton today.

Thanks to all.........................
