This morning was one of these commutes...actually it's the same pretty much all through the week (74 to 98). I try to keep safe distances, but it is impossible to do so. Every jerk cuts in front and forces you to hit the brake. People ride your bumper, even though you already drive 70 Mph in a 55 Mph zone (not in the left lane!). And it's not even summer traffic yet.

It actually starts to affect me. I am usually a mellow guy but lately I catch myself having less patience and getting angry for stupid reasons. Maybe it's time to look for another job or place to live in order to cut out the parkway.

I completely agree. I never understood the people who lived in Ocean County and commuted to the NYC area to work. Life is too short to forfeit about 10 + hours of your life every week, and to do so with these conditions prevailing.

I hate the parkway, one of the reasons I don't visit family in Ocean County to much!
In addition to what you said there are portions where the lanes are so narrow I feel like I'm going to knock someone's mirror off if I pass them....guess I'm to used to interstate driving where the lanes have to be wide enough for tractor trailers

The GSP stinks! I rode on it this Saturday for the first time in about 5 months to travel down to Ocean Co. to see family. I stopped at the toll plaza after the Driscoll Bridge (I don't have EZ Pass, since I never ride toll roads) and held out a dollar bill waiting for my 30 cents change. I didn't realize the toll had gone up to $1. The toll taker said "um, Ma'am your good it's $1." I was kind of shocked for a second and then I remembered about the increase....those bastids!

personally to me any drive more than 45 mins within nj sucks...but i do enjoy longer rides 90 mins if its thru country roads (interstate) and such beautiful roads and that too not daily though but 2 days a week.

Ah it ain't that bad once you get south of Woodbridge. I agree those lanes are less then DOT standards over the Raritan bridges but since the GSP is privately owned they do not have to abide by DOT standards.

North GSP maybe starting in Union I hate. In all their efforts to add lanes there are some areas with 6 lanes and no shoulders.

And of course on nice weather weekends you dont want to be on the GSP anywhere south in the morning and north in the evening. Have they gotten rid of those damn toll plazas yet? I know they been talking about adopting the NJTP method for years.

Wasn't the governor floating the idea of placing tolls on Rt 80 or Rt 78 not so long ago? Did that die in committee?

Yes those talks were just last year. I did a quick search and the subject seems to not have been raised in some time. Maybe the toll idea on Interstates died.
