Default I called the bergen record on that Sunday overtime teacher stuff!!

I kept thinking about those teachers in Westwood NJ who came to home school the suspended kid on Sunday. The more I thought about this the more mad I got. I called the Record and past along the story to see if they could look into it. Of course I dont expect anything to happen, but this really gets me mad. I mean the kid gets suspened and the teacher want to come and home school on Sunday so they get more overtime/money! How disgraceful. ANd the father told me they purposely picked Sunday (2 weeks in a row). This makes me so mad.

I don't know about New Jersey, but in New York, if a child is placed on "Out of School Suspension", the state education law requires that a teacher be sent to the home for instruction. It's not an issue of overtime here in New York. There are teachers that are hired as home instructors and are paid much like substitute teachers. If there is work, the teacher is called and given the assignment and it is done during the school day. If there is no work, the teacher does not get paid.

I have a great solution that will work for everyone. How about we educate our children at home first so that they dont get suspended and act like idiots. That way no teacher has to go to a house on Sunday, Monday or whatever. That solves the problem but of course that would take work.

both true, now the NY situation may just be the same as the NJ situation, I dont know that it was overtime for a fact. The father of the suspended kid said that it was. However I have no beef if that is the case of substitute or not overtime teachers. As far as the father this family is so screwed up its not funny. Damage is done, kid had two drunks as mom and dad growing up. Now the kid is a complete out of control trouble all the time type. Kid does not take authority serious, does not care what dad says and dad is a drunk so its a no win situation.

So send him somewhere to actually work. Not this crap of educating all of our idiots. One thing Cuba does right is if you dont want to learn they have plenty of sugar cane for you to go and cut. Send these kids who dont want to learn to work and lets see how many act up? Ohhh no poor kids!! WAAAWAAAA!

I never really understood Home suspension - so the kid gets out of school for a couple of days... wow that kid is really suffering sitting home all day watching t.v. - why wouldn't they keep them and send them to the Library and have them do their assignments or a report there so that way the kid is still punished (no lunch time hanging out, no in between classes).

It's called compulsorily education. If a student receives an out of school detention that lassts over a certain amount of time the school district must provide an at home tutor
