Irvington, NJ
Looking to buy a home
I found a small home in a somewhat nice neighborhood near the union border. I hear horrible things about northeast irvington all the time.
I was wondering if this is a good more or not..its off chancellor ave.
any info would be great!

I would avoid Irvington like the plague- block for block it is one of, if not the most dangerous town in the country. The only reason you don't see it on "Most Dangerous" lists is that it doesnt meet the population requirement.

I wouldn't do it either. If you have to be in that area, search in Union instead.

there are two nice apartment complexes in irvington. Manor drive area aka millrun. and another one right around grove st that has security. manor drive is a better choice cause 90% f the apartments are in union

Don't do it! Irvington makes Newark seem like San Francisco in comparison!

I agree with Manor Drive. My girlfriend used to live there and I felt totally safe. Parking, is a whole other issue altogether.

Irvington on Union border is not really that bad, if you stay around 40th st, then by Hollywood Ave its pretty nice for Irvington there and pretty safe, and since Hollywood Ave borders Union and a lot of Union cops partrol that area they even go to Irvington sice like 1 or 2 streets in which makes even safer. Manor Dr is nice i used to live there back in 1992 then in 1993+ it went down hill very quickly to a bad, but since then the owners went banckrupt and new owner took over and really fixed it up, and made it nice again. Only thing is they are raising the rent a lot.

Keep in mind, though the homes in the neighborhood you're looking at are respectable, you are going to a target of break-ins and thefts from the criminals who probably live no more than a few blocks away. You're better off looking at somewhere in Union County or northwest Essex County.
