Hey,

Can anyone here recommend a handyman/maintenance person servicing Essex County in North Jersey? I am new to the area and thought I would check here first before randomly picking someone from google. I came across a company called "MrHandyman" - has anyone have any experience with them? Right now, I need someone for some minor electrical work and fixes for kitchen cabinets, but for the right person, I would probably need someone on a regular basis. One condition is the person must be licenses and have insurance.

Please send me a DM if you can recommend someone, but any feedback on MrHandyman would be appreciated.

Thanks!

FWIW -- I've hired unlicensed people before, with no problems (so far). Right now, I know of a guy who was/is a retired AT&T facilities engineer, who does HVAC/electrical/plumbing for supplemental income (and to get out of the house, away from his wife)

If the person has decent references, I'd at least bring them in for an estimate. That's when you find out that the licensed "professional" is passing along their cost (for certifications & such) to you...

Sorry I can't recommend anyone. My brother is a licensed contractor...he doesn't work in Essex County but I will tell you that those that are licensed are getting really annoyed that there are unlicensed contractors out there who can underbid them because they are not licensed and therefore don't have the required insurance. The unlicensed guy doesn't have the same overhead.

It stinks when you try to do the right thing but it makes it harder to compete with those that aren't.
