Default Vacation Ideas.....

I need a vacation BAD.

I want someplace relaxing .... yet not boring.
Some place nice.... yet not outrageously expensive.

Driving is good, flying is ok too.... Adults & Kids.... nice family place.

Ideas?

Bar Harbor, ME

Tons of outdoorsy stuff to do. Cute downtown. Long day driving but a great place to spend a week.

what is your definition of boring -vs- relaxing? LOL reason I ask is I'd recommend OBX, but compared to Wildwood, etc, it can fall under the category of "boring", but it's definitely relaxing.

we're going to Maine in August (southwestern, near the NH border) - we're going to go zip-lining, go to Mt. Washington (drive and cog rail), go to Portland for the days, etc etc....

Well, lets see. Kids wanted Disney this year - NOT happening. I toyed with doing like St. Pete Beach in FL and doing a DAY trip to Disney...but now we're thinking if we do that it will be a day trip to Busch Gardens instead.

In the past the whole family loved Miami Beach, but I didn't dig our last visit. DH and one kid would like to go though.... so I did to with staying in Sunny Isles or Hollywood - again close to but not in the action.

I'm also thinking about Ocean City in MD?

I would do the Jersey Shore, but NJ is just SO damned overpriced. I can stay in a 5 star hotel and get airfare and a rental car to FL for what it would cost me for a "Motel" in the Jersey Shore. That pisses me off.....

I also love Newport RI and I'd love to go there, but not in the summer season, I prefer that when quiet (and maybe with the kids at Grandmas!)

Also really considered some "family resorts" like Woodloch or Rocking Horse...but man...$$$$$$$$ scary.

Maine is someplace I've always wanted to go, but have yet to go..... that's a good consideration.

My personal opinion is OC, MD is it's not worth the time and price. I wasn't impressed. The cost is NJ Shore equivalent. Go to Wildwood and save the 4 hrs driving.

I've heard some speak highly of Rehoboth Beach, DE though - I've never been.

Have you looked into Smuggler's Notch in VT? Another place I haven't been, but have heard good things, they may be running specials. Also look into Lake Winnepausaukee in NH - there's Weirs Beach for the kids.

Holland Michigan: View Holland on Video! - Home

My aunt and uncle have vacationed here before many times. From what I am told the west coast of Michigan is incredibly underrated. We are considering meeting some family half way either this summer or next. From NJ, you can drive there in about 15 hours.

Most New Jerseyans I think often think 'linearly' when it comes to vacations, that is, from Florida to Maine, north to south. There are plenty of places west as well!
