It's obvious that some think it has gone too far but this is private money. You really don't have a say in this instance.

To some people here, "hispanics" is a race
They don't realize there are blond hispanics, black hispanics, and every color in between....

There is no hispanic race. It is a designation. Who has the balls to determine who is "white" and who is not?
The government should have learned by now to stay out of it.
That won't stop in any of our lifetimes either.

an anonymous donation of this magnitude for the purpose of education is a magnificent thing. this is personal wealth being voluntarily given. the donor is free to attach whatever conditions to the donation he or she chooses, so long as they don't encourage the breach of any laws, and the university is then free to accept or decline as they see fit.
did anyone actually notice that of the $5 million donated, 20% is for the university to spend in whatever was they see fit, and the $4 million is the part specifically assigned to women and minorities? so, relax everyone, white males may still be eligible for a free lunch too.
who knows what the background of this donor is. who knows whether they decided to make the donation because of their own personal experiences, background or ethnicity. what they did was a good thing, and it astounds me that some would even consider this to be a racist act. come on!!!
it occurs to me that i often hear people complaining about high taxation, wealth redistribution, and how they as individuals would prefer to be able to elect which charities or causes their tax money supports...well guess what, an individual here has chosen to support, through their own free choice, a cause they believe in, and all of a sudden there people crying about it being an outrage, and how it shouldnt be allowed.
its peoples reactions which should be questioned, not the donation.

We certainly do when a state-funded institution is charged with implementing the racist policies.

LOL, No such thing as "White Hispanics". Hispanics is a name given to people with 2 or more races (mixed), Spanish being one of them.

Most people wouldn't have an issue with this if the double standard of racism/sexism didn't exist in this country.
Would it be okay for the public college to accept a $4MM donation to be used for white males and women only?

Yes, let's look at the statistics from the U.S. Department of Labor:
Female unemployment rate 2007: 4.5%
Male unemployment rate 2007: 4.7%
Female unemployment rate 2008: 5.4%
Male unemployment rate 2008: 6.1%
http://www.bls.gov/cps/cpsaat24.pdf
As for scholarships for "at risk" groups, more women than men have been graduating from post-secondary colleges and universities for the past 20 years. Women are hardly at higher risk of failing to obtain a higher education, quite the opposite, it is men who are falling behind in education.
College graduates trend by gender
The fact is, each side can cherry pick whatever statistics it wants to in order to claim "victim status".
But the bottom line is that two wrongs don't make a right, and we should treat people equally if we want to further the values of "equality" in society.
Reverse racism and gender discrimination have no place in society. The only truly "disadvantaged" group are the poor, because in our country, money talks. Rich blacks and rich girls have far more opportunities than a poor white boy (and of course, far more opportunity than a poor black boy or poor white girl) and racist discrimination does nothing to address that fact.
Can't wait for the millionaire Obama girls to get affirmative action and use my tax-payer funded money to help them out over my "advantaged" white son.
