Default Evening transit?

Trying to find the latest lines (bus or train?) going from north jersey (westwood or nearby- i can get a car ride to the starting point) down into Hoboken- anything after 10pm that anyone knows of?

-the quickest, simplest, and most direct route (basically door-to-door) is to take nj transit's pascack valley line from westwood to hoboken. the last hoboken-bound train leaves the westwood station at 9:38pm on weekdays and at 8:40pm on saturdays and sundays.

go to njtransit.com, then click on "train schedules" for more info. for what it's worth, you can catch the train at other stations in the area, including hillsdale, emerson, oradell, etc.

-if you absolutely cannot leave the westwood area until after 10pm, an alternative option is to take nj transit's nyc-bound 165 bus from westwood to the corner of boulevard east and pershing road in weehawken, then walk down pershing to the port imperial hudson-bergen light rail station (about 10-15 minutes down the hill toward the hudson river). from there, you can take the light rail to hoboken.

you can find walking directions to the port imperial station here.

at that time of day, the light rail runs every 20 minutes. the train ride itself takes 12 minutes from port imperial to hoboken. just be aware that the last hoboken-bound train leaves port imperial at 12:56am on weekdays and at 12:55am on saturdays and sundays.

again, go to njtransit.com, then click on "light rail schedules" for more info.

-a third option is to take the 165 bus to the corner of boulevard east and 48th street in weehawken, then walk westbound along 48th street to the intersection of broadway and 48th street in union city (about a 3-4 minute walk).

from that corner, you can catch nj transit's hoboken-bound 89 bus.

just be aware that this is the least desirable of the three options. for one thing, union city isn't the greatest neighborhood at that time of night. i definitely would not want to wait alone on a UC street corner at 11pm. the other issue is that there are only two hoboken-bound 89 buses after 10pm (check the schedule to see for yourself).

-a fourth option is to take the 165 bus to weehawken, then catch a taxi to hoboken. since the two towns are adjacent to one another, your cab fare shouldn't be more than $10-$15. if you were to utilize this option, you'd probably want to have the phone numbers of at least two or three hoboken/weehawken/union city-area taxi stands at your disposal, just in case. and of course, you'd have to reserve the cab in advance.

for future reference, go to hopstop.com when you need help planning your trips via mass transit and/or taxis. it's one of the best resources around for navigating north jersey and nyc.
