Default Lakewood? Info Please Before I Bid...

Hi everyone,

We don't have a large income but would like to own. I was born and raised in Point Pleasant, but seems I've been priced out of my own town. We can't seem to find anything in our price range anywhere that isn't a raccoon shack or in scary neighborhoods.

We took a look at some homes today in Lakewood, by route 70, not far from Greenbriar.

Granted, it's small and a fixer-upper, but want to know if there is anything I need to know about the area or the town before putting a bid on it?

I wouldn't move to Lakewood, if you currently live in Point.

The taxes in Lakewood are constantly changing.

Right now, my tax bill came in for the 3rd quarter with the rest "to be billed". usually you get the whole thing up front, but this year they have no idea what the taxes are going to be.

Traffic in Lakewood sucks no matter where you are. If you are talking about Greenbriar Woodlands off Shorrock, that is one of the worst spots to be driving in. With Costco, The Home Depot, Lowes and the Parkway exit and entrance, it's pretty ridiculous.

The only part of Lakewood that is still as it was 20 years ago, and may not last is the southwest quadrant where I live.

Cross St still has some land available, but houses are priced way too high. Over $500k in many cases.

There are no more neighborhoods that are not invested with the Jewish community. They leave their garbage cans out all week, garbage blows from their yard into your yard. They don't stop at stop signs and never pay attention to speed limits or any other traffic laws.

Lakewood is no longer the town I grew up in, it's the town I want to get the hell out of, but my job keeps me here for now.

Jackson and Howell were some choices at first, but now that I've found out that the taxes there are worse than Lakewood and the Jews are moving in, I need to find somewhere else to go.

For a Point Pleasant person, you'd be better off looking in Brick.

I'm with Old School 1965. Look at Brick. Toms River might have something for you, too. I don't think I would advise Lakewood to anyone.
