No I'm not kidding. I want to know exactly whrere I can pay $1,000 a year in property taxes and get the same level of education I get currently.

I agree w/ UKOK on this.... many of the states mentioned there have POOR schools. I mean, look at GA the top ranked schools in there state don't compare with some of the lower ranked schools in NJ nationally.

You're right. And people that move DO take less, they look at the state rankings and think "Gee, Jr is going to get a top notch education." And look, I'm not saying they will get a BAD education, but they are not on par with many schools in our state. Someone put a posted this map about a week ago:

Top 10 NJ public schools and school districts in New Jersey - Neighborhood Scout

You can go in and search other states too. Do it and look at the STATE rankings vs/ the NATIONAL rankings.. It is really mind boggling.

You don't think those yankee transplants in SC or NC are going to stand for sub par education...look over in those forums it's usually the first question potential transplants ask
njkate - They don't! But one area that both states are somewhat deficient in compared to NJ, is special education. You'll see a lot of complaints that services for an autistic kid are not all they could be in the eyes of transplants. NC & SC are not willing, at this stage, to spend what NJ spends in the area of special ed! But that $300,000 house which looks like it would cost nearly a million in NJ, might have an $1800 tax bill. Typical per student costs here are around $4400 per elementary ed student and $7000 for HS.

You guys make blanket statements with out even checking the facts..I might also ad that GA's lottery $$$ go to education any hs student graduating with a B or above goes free to any State public college..

It comes down to the poorer areas usually because of apathetic parents have lower scores then schools in more affluent araes,,sheesh

OK look at this: Alpharetta, GA... 7th most expenxive town in GA and at the top tier of schools in Georgia.

Ranks a 9 out of 10 (10 being the highest) in GA..... ranks 4 out of 10 on the same scale nationally.

Mountain Park Alpharetta, GA Neighborhood Profile

Now let's take a town like Carlstadt NJ - not one that anyone thinks to highly of in these parts.

They rank 3 out of 10 in NJ ... but 8 out of 10 Nationally....

Carlstadt, NJ - 07072 - Real Estate Information

Capiche?

Yes that I have heard if you have a special needs child the choices are lacking
I think NJ spends a lot on autism because for some unknown reason our autism rate is over the top

You can twist anyway you like the truth is poorer areas in any state have schools which are lacking while areas be it blue or white collar have schools that do better.
To make a blanket statement that all schools in the south are lacking is just unreasonable
CAPRICHE?!

I would not say they are all lacking, I'm saying that if you compare NATIONALLY we have stronger schools, overall, in NJ than in GA. Or in PA for example. It's hard to go district by district with this, which is what you'd have to do, but statistically, our so so schools (like Carlstadt) seem to rank better nationally than well to do schools in some states (like Alpharetta GA).

I agree w/ the post that says many of the transplants moving away ARE content to take less education for less $$$. I really do. I have seen it with my friends. And I had friends move back from PA, FL, AZ, and GA.... one of their points of contention were they were not as happy with the schools there.
