Monmouth Junction to Jersey Ave station
Hi,
We toured the South Brunswick area/Monmouth Junction area last weekend and really liked the area. Very family friendly. A bit far from NYC, but in this state you live with taxes, commute and death. In that order
I have to make it to midtown around 50th/7th ave everyday. How long is the drive in the morning from Monmouth Junction to Jersey Ave train station. Distance wise its 10 miles from New Rd, but considering traffic in the AM on RT1 and/or Rt27, we don't have a good indicator. And hence can't come up with total commute time door-to-door.
Does anybody have an idea/opinion on this. Would be really helpful for us to figure out if South Brunswick/Monmouth junction is a viable place for us.
Thanks,
Nick.

I would allow at least 45 minutes in the AM from Monmouth Junction during rush hour. Your best bet will be to take Rt 1 because traffic moves a lot faster than it does on Rt 27 heading to New Brunswick (Jersey Ave). Don't forget to checkout the parking arrangements at Jersey Ave - the lot fills up pretty early in the daily lot and there is a waiting list for permit parking.

If you drive to Jersey Ave, you're looking at a commute that could be every bit of two hours.
I'm not enough of a masochist to do that, but to each his or her own.

I had a client last year who lived near Rt 130 in the Monmouth Junction area and she took a taxi in the morning for her daily commute to midtown NYC from Jersey Ave and she said her average time was approximately 30 minutes.

Sure, a 30 minute taxi ride, a one-hour train ride, 15 minutes on the subway, walk a couple of blocks..you see where this is going.
The time adds up really quickly.
I shudder to think how much that individual made if she took a 30-minute cabe ride every day.

Thank you for your response.
It's a bit shocking I asked somebody who rents in Monmouth Junction right now, and he said from his place here
205 Southridge Woods Blvd, Monmouth Junction, NJ 08852 - Google Maps
It takes him 12 min to Jersey Ave station in AM, 15mins in the evening
How can this be true????

Just a thought, would it be faster to hop on the turnpike and drive up to Metropark? Or maybe find an express bus which will get you to the PABT. Then you can walk from PABT to the office, save yourself that subway trip in the city.
