I always grumble under my breath when buying a beach pass to go on the beach for the day in NJ. We already pay enough taxes in NJ. I've been to beaches all over the US, and don't ever remember paying. I assume the beaches are maintained through taxpayer money. Do residents of these NJ towns get a discount or something of that nature? Are they exempt from having to buy these types of beach passes if they are taxpayers residing in these towns?
yup unless you live on "private beach" not open to public....I think Mantoloking & Bayhead are private..but then you wouldn't want their property taxes
Most beaches in NJ have to charge in order to pay for lifeguards, beach cleaning, etc. But I do believe that there are some beaches that give discounts for residents (I think Brick residents are an example). And even the private beaches will require residents to pay annual fees to maintain those beaches (on top of property taxes)
I don't agree that the state should pay for it through our tax dollars, because not everyone uses it and there's plenty of people from NY, PA, and other locations that use our beaches.
Actually in a lot of places you really dont even have to pay. Only for parking, and things like that.
Like Wildwood, seaside heights(usuallyy), NJ .. u dont have to . and many more places
which ones you b goin to ?
Try Florida......all the beaches and parking are free......and......you don't have to wade through the hospital waste that washes up somewhere on our Jersey beaches every summer.
The only break that the locals get is a chance to buy discounted beach passes early in the season, which anyone could do if they happen to be in town.
There are no discounts because someone is a year round resident, or property tax payer. At least in Florida, the tourists pay so many taxes and fees the locals get a tax break.
I still marvel at how the whole west coast is free. There would be a rebellion if the states started to charge for access.
I missed out on going to the shore quite a bit as a kid just because we couldn't afford the passes. Maybe it was because the parental units didn't want to endure the traffic and that was what they told me. I believe No one should have to stay away from the shore because they are broke. There should be no fee, it is a public resource and belongs to everyone. That includes people from other states.
Most of the west coast has no life gaurds either, that is pretty much restricted to LA and San Diego. I've never seen one anywhere else from Seattle on down.
I don't suppose that would fly there tho. I think population dictates the need. I don't know how it is paid for in Ca. but the beach is free.
