The usual question:

what is your budget ?

Some other questions:

what are your priorities ?
do you commute to the city ?
are you a 3 person or a two person family ?

I know exactly where these apartments are, and imo are overpriced as the surrounding area leaves much to be desired. There is plenty of low income housing in that surrounding area.

Then why not live near grove street ? Your husband could work to work.

looks like you still cant make up your mind and want something very safe. Then i suggest just rent a 1BR in newport / exchange place (next to where your husband works). You will be very safe then protected by the downtown JC forcefield.. 2BR there are $2000+ though.

I don't know anything about schools, you should dig up online material about the area.

It is a very nice neighborhood, and I often see young families (usually with small children) there.

I think you would feel safe there as adults. I don't think you should let your child run around unsupervised in the streets though.

Given your priorities, you may want to take a look at towns on the njtransit train line -- but you might find Jersey City to be a good fit for now.
