Default Maplewood/Springfield Ave Questions

Hi all - I know there are lots of posts about Maplewood/Irvingotn safety, but I am thinking of moving my family to Maplewood on Hilton Avenue (Hilton and Wellsely - 1 block away from the Hilton Library on Springfield Ave)...I am trying to find out if it is safe and how close it is to Irvington border? I know people say the closer it is to Irvington the worse it is, but I can't seem to find where Irvington starts! Am I really close to Irvington? I am married with a 3 month old baby...Thanks for all your help!

If you drive Springfield Avenue towards Irvington, once you cross Boyden Avenue (Where the Quick Check is) and reach Chancellor Avenue - you are basically in Irvington.

I grew up in South Orange and personally, that is not an area where I would buy a house. But everyone is different. It is very close to Springfield Avenue which is the main road between Irvington on one end and Vaux Hall on the other end. When I lived there, there would be police chases on a regular basis on Springfield Ave - don't get me wrong, not like every day but a couple of times per month.

BTW if you put the address in google maps and then pull out a little to get a larger view you can see where Irvington is in relation to Maplewood.

That area's safe and sound. You'll be good. You're well away from Irvington. I live close to Irvington and there's NO crime that really goes on in here expect a little property crime here and there. You're safe.

If you are traveling Springfield ave toward Irvingron, you will have NJ transit HQ on your left and as soon as the building ends thats where the border is. Also you will see that nice red paved sidewalks end and ugly concrete cracked sidewalks begin then you are in Irvington. All of the Maplewood is nice and safe even on the border of Irvington.

Exactly, that's what's funny about Maplewood and Irvington. Drive on Elmwood Avenue going to Irvington and as soon as you go across that little bridge with the sewer running off of it and your car starts going all over the place over those potholes in the road.. you know you're in Irvington.

A better way to look at it is Irvington's street signs are blue, Maplewood's are green.
