Then if that person going 70mph is a police officer, would you really feel comfortable passing them at 80mph? And, when s/he pulls you over, will you cite that law as your defense?
I'm not really sure why you're so keen on bringing a police officer into this. Speed is irrelevant here. The law is that the left lane is used for passing, and passing only. So yes, if someone is in the left lane going at any speed, and they're not passing, they should move over for the person behind them who intends to pass, regardless of speed. That's the law.

If I'm going 80 in the left hand lane, where the posted MPH is 65 mph ,only to pick up an exit, bite me. You will wait. I'm not going to miss my exit b/c you (you in general) have some bug up your ass. And if you flash your lights, I'll reduce my speed b/c you are pissing me off. Who ARE you (you in general, not specific) and what is so important that you need to do 85 or 90 mph on any road where the limit is posted 65 or lower? Without a police escort?

What is FAST ENOUGH when the posted speed limit is 65 and you're already doing 80?

It's not like all the idiots who flash the car infront of them, while pushing 80 or 85 ever seem to manage to merge over to the right. They feel like the left lane is their own personal Autobahn. Which it isn't. I'm passing on the left and staying in the left lane in order to maintain the lane I need to be in so I can get to my exit.

First of all, I don't know where all these left exits are that people speak of. I only know of a few (one on 22, two on 287) in my area. Secondly, who are you to determine how fast people can go? That's what I don't understand. It's none of your business how fast someone is going. That's what police are for. It is however your responsibility to understand the fact that the left lane is the PASSING lane, for a very important reason. Traffic is completely thrown off when people are sitting in the left lane holding everyone up, because the other two lanes are obviously not meant for passing.

NJPhillyfan, I definitely get a sense of the kind of driver you are. Clearly you seem to be an entitled one. The reason I mentioned the police is that I seriously doubt that you will feel comfortable zipping by a police officer going 85 mph -- in fact, most people wouldn't. That's because most everyone knows to abide by the speed limit when the police are present, irrespective to what lane they are in.

Another point, just today I was driving in the left lane on a two-lane interstate. The speed limit was 60 mph and I was going 70mph. I saw someone approaching me from my rear view mirror, and he was clearly going much faster. I knew that he wanted me to move over, but I didn't. I was comfortable at the pace I was going, and I was comfortable staying in the left lane. It is here that you say that it is not "safe" for me to stay in the left lane, because pissing the person off behind me only causes everyone to lose. Hmmm. I do not think I lost anything in that situation. After all, I still got to my destination on time. Now, if the person behind me was pissed off, then he did have two options: 1) slow his a** down, or 2) maneuver to the right lane and pass me. Since the traffic in right lane was moving more slowly, he simply chose to slow down behind me. Again, I'm sure that he probably was pissed off. And, maybe he did lose. Maybe he lost some of that road-rage that he was carrying, which could only make everyone safer.

Ah, now I see the point that you were making.

Again, you are more concerned with teaching someone a lesson and driving at YOUR speed, then being safe. Two drivers can be wrong (and driving illegally) at the same time. You are one of those drivers.

Yup, I'm inconsiderate, I drive illegally -- and still I teach lessons at the same time.
