Looks like we're having layoffs and I'll know by tonight if I'm one of them.

Fingers are crossed for ya, buddy. If the axe does fall, try to keep things in perspective and focus on what's really important in life.

If you survive today's layoffs, consider it a reminder of the importance of making sure you're set with your 6 to 12 month living expenses (including COBRA) emergency fund.

Ironically, I have a personal day today -so I'm home. I got the call from my office. *sigh*

I initially had a meltdown. Then I did just what you said... focus on what's important. Sat down and looked at my monthly budget and while we'd be tight, we'd MAKE it with my hubby's paycheck and my unemployment. We're on his insurance, so no COBRA (thank Heavens). There will be some cuts made too, but honestly... EVERYTHING in life happens for a reason.... so I am waiting and taking it in stride. Although I am still having a Ketel One and Cranberry juice right now. (That will have to be downgraded.....)

Enjoy that Kettle One and hang in there but don't go overboard -- today they may not be coming for you afterall, and you don't want too much of a hangover tomorrow at work! :-)

EEEPNJ, did you get the word for sure that you are layed off? I'm really hoping that it's not the case.

It's sooooooooooooooo ironic. I'm in HR. I did not know of this, only my boss did. I did have suspicions. I'm so pissed though because my company has had it's 2 most profitable years in a row...there is NO need for this. It's because the owner doesn't want to alter HIS lifestyle that we are all going to pay and THAT pisses me off - regardless of if it is me or my co-workers that get the ax. So we'll be SOL and he can keep his country club membership and 5 vacation a year habbit. :< But there is nothing I can do about it. And if he's foolish enough to make this decision, who knows what the future holds for his company. You can only spread people so thin before everything is effected.... I was doing 50-60 hrs per week.... so I don't see where anyone will absorb that workflow.

My thoughts are with you Elle. I hope you prevail after today. Many of us are increasingly living lives of quiet desparation. At least there are some forums to vent on those these days to make it slightly less quiet.

VERY true Lustian. LOL No, I'm having ONE to settle the nerves and that is IT.

NJM- no official word yet, but it's looking grim.

We have 6 people in my dept, they have to ax 2. It's not my boss. So there leaves 5. One is my boss's sister. Not going to be her. That leaves 4. One is the owners neice, not going to be her. Now we have 3. So it's me and 2 other co-workers.... I'm pretty sure I'll be one of them.

Truth be told, as much as it would suck to be let go, it might suck more to be left behind. I can't work 80 hours per week and I would be expected to pick up the work of those who left. So it would be unbearable. Guess it won't be good either way.
