I wouldn't rent an apartment that reeked of curry. Since I'm not Indian or Chinese I'm amused by the whole pot calling the kettle black thing. I wonder if the smell of boiling potatoes ever bothered my old neighbors.
Hmmm never knew curry smelled that bad
Now I know why if I want take out Indian food hubbie tells me eat it in and don't bring it home ...lol
Yeah my wife and I can't tolerate the odor. I had a grade school buddy that was Indian and I couldn’t last more than 5 minutes in his house beacuse the curry smell was overbearing.

curry smell, is he serious!? Yea that can't be legal.
I think the landlord was referring to an unpleasant stench in this case it was the smell of curry.
Contact that office that another poster kindly gave you the info for. I'd also ask your landlord if he charged the prior tenants a fee for cleaning the place up/removing the odor and did nothing about it( I doubt he'll be honest about it though). I'm more or less wrapped up with my finals, and I wouldn't mind personally doing some bargaining/arguing with your landlord on your behalf.
Also, as another poster already pointed out. You should've complained about the state of the apartment before you moved in. Lesson learned I guess.
It really depends on the condition, none of us know if charging $100 is reasonable or not without looking at the apt. I dont know how many of you actually had experience renting out to people who cooks heavy spicy curries, but there are cases where the smell is so bad, you literally have the walls covered with yellowish goo and the smell is embeded into the kitchen cabins and walls, even after repainting the place and leaving the window open for a week didnt help. it was a nightmare to deal with.

Wow..really??? Well in that case I could see withholding $100.00
Don't have that much exposure to Indian cooking, there are certain dishes I like such as Chicken Tandoori but I always ask them to go easy on the spices
no, because his daughter gives massages with happy endings. ive seen her ad on craigslist.
