Should I buy in Verona (Newark: condos, taxes, safe)

I am going to see few condos in Verona. Can you tell me anything about the communte and why the hell are the taxes 12% ?

I'm not sure how often the taxes go up. Right now the property is listed at 3,840 but the rate is 12% or 9% and I'm not sure if it's safe for me to go intu a rate like this.

I would appreciate honesty here. Thanks!

GREAT community but unfortunately part of Essex Co (and Newark) thus the high taxes subsidizing Newark. For basis of comparision I suggest looking at similar properties in Morris Co. and see what taxes are like there.

Any suggestion as to the part of Morris? I don't mind the current annual number, whcich is not even 4K but how often do they go up?

expect an increase every year. check New Jersey by the Numbers - NJ.com to see the yearly increase since 2000. Just enter the street name and municipality.
