I hear you.
I've pretty much been satisfied with what I had in life at it's various stages but I've always wanted to do more than just meet my needs.
That's setting the bar way too low for my taste.

That's not for you to decide.
I certainly have no desire for a large home but I'd like to have 10, 20 or more acres of land.
Don't need it, can live without, would just like to have it - eventually.

You can get a nice house for a reasonable price in these towns. Alot of people want to move to the Carolinas, TN, OK and buy a large house for less, to make believe they are living like the upper middle class when they are the lower middle class. In the mean time, how is the access to history, culture and a more advanced civilization in general. NJ's population has generally slowed significantly, immigrants are what is causing all this COL hoopla. They crowd and they don't complain, which is just what our corrupt, inept and tax loving government is just fine with. Our immigrants ,esp. the non-European ones make the best sheeple for our psuedo-liberal nutbags who run this joint.

Since as far as I know I'm the only one on the NJ forum who moved to OK, I'll respond to this (since Diane already covered TN). Our house here in OK is only about 300 square foot larger than our NJ house. However, our mortgage payment, including taxes and insurance, is roughly half of what it was in NJ. Our gas and electricity is about 60% less than NJ. And sure, our salaries are lower, maybe about 20%, but our expenses are way less than 20% different.
And yes, we have culture. Right now a broadway touring company of The Lion King is playing at our Civic Center. We have all the top names in entertainment playing in OKC, including Robin Williams, Jeff Dunham and even (gasp) the Jonas Brothers. We have a very active art community that has an excellent art show every year, and even a "tagging" art show in the summer. The King Tut exhibit (that I saw in Philly) just left OKC. And we have many, many museums, including the best Native American history museum in the country.
We have top colleges (OSU and OU) whose tuition is less than half of Rutgers. I work for the State of OK, in a department with 8 people -- one with a PhD, 4 with Master Degrees, one bachelor, and two Associate degrees.
We may be a flyover state, but that's fine with us. Oklahoma is our little secret, and we like keeping the crowds out.

I was responding to UrbanQuest's comment on other states having culture. It matters little to me what you think of culture. But it's amusing you refer to NATIVE Americans as " foreign people dance in weird outfits." LOL

yeah, i should have quoted him but i was reading your post at the time.
i wasnt referring to native americans. its just been my experience that people on tv see indian people or african people dancing around half naked or with colorful outfits and they say thats culture. whatever. my culture is big cars, big houses and women with big boobies.
people just throw around the word "culture" as if it means something and it really doesnt.
